Anyone notice the sudden influx of new members? It's great! Miles, did you do some advertising when you opened the store?

new blood is always a good thing. (ask keith richards)

what amazes me is that there are people signed up for the tour who have never posted.

there are people who have posted pics of their guitars but have never posted.

STOP LURKING!!!! COME ON IN AND ENJOY THE PARTY.

it is much more fun to be a part of the party than to watch it from over the fence.

Don't take the # too seriously. People sign up for another account because he/she:

(1) does not like the old id
(2) lost the password
(3) likes to have fun
(4) likes to have more id's
(4) does not like the old member #
(5) wanted to play game, e.g. Miles? impersonated Elias with a fake account before

Real/active members should be far less than 1900. Less than 10% of 1900, I suppose.

you always have such a positive out look. Have you ever considered another message board where you can spread your joy?

Make a survey if you really wanted to know the real #. I heard many of the early members left the board already.

Make a survey & see who are still here.

Hotmail will kill your email account if it's been inactive for over 30 days. Why? People wanted to have more ids & accounts.

Ralph:

I'm not certain I understand your point. A lot of people sign up and watch and read. A smaller number post on a regular basis. Kinda like the real world.

My guess is that there aren't a lot of people signing up over and over again. There are people who sign up to get some information on a guitar, or to sell or buy a guitar. These people may not be active.

I don't think anybody is claiming that there are over 1900 active participants here. Just that there are over 1900 who have cared enough to sign up.

So what is your point and your purpose behind the point?

I know a few people have signed up with multiple accounts, some have contacted me because of changed emails and such. I'm sure some people have more than one account. I have never signed up using another members name, although I did make a sarcastic post once that the people involved understood, others did not get.

We do get about 120-130 new signups each month and they are worldwide. Also when I run the stats we get actual sessions (not just hits) from most of the countries of the world. Every state is accounted for, and every continent except Antartica I think, and this is every month. I find it amazing.

Like most sites of this type there are three primary groups. The active posting people which is usually the smallest group. Then there are the lurkers who stop by, maybe post, but read the boards often, check out the pictures etc and this is the largest group. Then there is the group of in the middle that signup, usually to ask a question, maybe post for awhile, then move on.

As far as I'm concerned they are all members and all welcome. Much of the sales in the new store are to folks whom I'm not even sure have ever signed up, and as Al mentioned, it looks like we'll meet some new faces at the Tour this year too.

As far as the sudden surge goes, I thought there was a surge too, but when checked it still averages about 120-130 month and has been at that level for about a year now.

As we discussed in another thread, there are a lot of Ovation guitar owners out there, over 1/2 million just with USA Models. New ones everyday, and new people finding the web everyday. It's been a fun study.

For those that may be interested, just for fun I pulled the stats so far this month, and for the sake of keeping it simple, this a just the breakout of where active sessions are from. A session means that someone actually logged in or visited multiple pages, not just the chatter caused by bots. Also in this report Virgina takes credit for a majority of folks using AOL as that is where the router address is from.

Miles, I think your stats are wrong about Oregon. It says only 2 "sessions" from here this month. I've been on here & viewed multiple pages every day this month & posted multiple times. Not that it really matters, but I think your counter isn't counting so pretty good :)
0.00%, geez, am I the only Oregonian on here?

LOL,
I knew I would get comments like that.. These stats are only what are "identified." Depending on how you access you may be in the ?? category or if you use AOL you may be counted in VA or the access point you are using. In your case, your first main HUB is Colorado (I looked it up), so you are probably being counted there.
So basically you can read it as that there were at least two sessions positively identified as being from Oregon. So as impressive as these numbers are, there are actually more than get recorded on the server. This is actually not a good report for tracking, but more for trouble shooting. I have tones of reports available, but most are extremely detailed for tracing problems on the network and such. I just get a kick out of all of the points of origin, and we know it's not a complete list.

Sounds like people are talking behind our backs. Where do you supose those early members went? Have they defected to the (insert demonic music here) Martin board? I think it's all Al's fault for being so nice lately. I guess we can have some piece of mind in knowing they can't take their Ovations with them.

I only know of one disgruntled member (that person was suspended and given the option to return but never did) although there may be more.

"ralph" has been a contrarian here for a while. I really don't understand his motives or care. All I know is that this website works and those that use it seem rather happy.

If you are unhappy here, then there are plenty of other places on the net to go visit.

To the guys who "run this thing", you are doing a great job! It must take a tremendous amount of time. I have trouble finding enough time to read current posts and research the older ones.
I have learned so much, makes me appreciate my O more.
It seems that Ovation owners have a great affection for their instruments. Do the people that play G's and T's and M's and F's feel the same way? I doubt it.

I used to give my daughter a hard time for talking about her online friends like they were real. I've had to appologize to her several times since I joined this board. Even if I had not attended the convention last year, I would still feel like I knew you guys pretty well. The new members, as I've said in a previous post, are great. If you've noticed, we now have several Celebrity users as well as Applause owners. Hell, there might even be some MOB owners at this point. Welcome to you all and pleae don't hesitate to join in on the discussions.

Well put Willard! I don’t like to think this forum is a place to "keep up with the Jones's". Although, it sure has cost me some money, because I've decided that "I've just got to have one of those"...
When it's all said and done, it's about loving to play guitars, and in our opinions, the Ovation is the best out there, or at any rate has some advantages that NO other guitar has...
I'm a die hard O fan...
Ovation, in my opinion is THE best bang for the buck... (allowing me to have a variety)
There is NO other round back...
The good folks at the factory, are real people that give that old time service, that makes you "want" to come back...
The people that play O's, seem to be the best out there, at least we all have the O's in common, so it would appear that way...
Just flat, a quality and fun filled product...

Hey Al and you too Miles!
I couldn't be happier with this board. You guys do great with updating the site from time to time and i think the store is fantastic.
The thing I really enjoy is all the great information that you get from the members about all the ovation models.
You guys are doing a great job
That's my 2 cents worth, I'm sure Most of the members here agree!

Great site, tons of information, interesting personalities... some with great senses of humor (Keith Richards... new blood... he he he).

What's the deal with Virginia though?

Has anyone audited to see if there are duplicates? I think I might have another account from a few years back.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks everyone,
Eman, as I mentioned above, AOL is in Virginia, and as this is a report only based on router information, not individual IP information, anyone using AOL shows up as Virginia in this report.
