'Buck Fever' is the condition which affects many hunters as deer season approaches and arrives. One of the symptoms is pulling the trigger unwisely as soon as the first nice looking buck gets in your sights. It is usually a bad shot. I had an ebay case of 'buck fever' on a guitar advertised as a "Ovation 2000 Millenium Collector's Edition". http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=47064&item=2576036674 The guitar is obviously not the very rare Millenium model, and I knew that. But that lulled me into a complacency about the remaining facts of identity and so I bid a decent starting bid for a USA model. A friend emailed me this morning to inform me that he had outbid me on it, but had some concerns. He had written the seller several times asking for verification that it is a USA Collectors' and not the Celebrity version. The seller never replied. The good news is that neither of us bid high enough to meet reserve. The lesson is to know what one is bidding on. Ovation did confuse the market a bit when they began releasing guitars as 'Collectors' editions in both USA and import versions. So, I am humbled and chastened by having made a foolish bid in haste. And I am in hopes that the more astute among the OFC family saw that bid and wondered, "What the #$%^ is he doing bidding THAT much on THAT guitar?" ;)

Since I was taught not to let anything go to waste I wore the jacket. It was warm and way out of fashion. I used to go to bars and have women call me "bambi killer" and then guys would buy me drinks laughing abou it. Funny thing is I never went hunting in my life. I am a fishing kinda guy. Anyway the grunge movement came in and my un-hip jacket was now in fashion. I thought that it was really funny. Well one place I frequent there is an old timer there that immediately put two and two together and got plaid woolwich jacket must be hunter. so he continously asks me about hunting and after telling him the first million times that I did not do it I finally just go along with it. This past sunday he took about 30 minutes of my time telling me about the buck he missed while groundhog hunting. You know the type big mustache, ear flap hat keeps saying "you know what I mean over and over" well after my eyes glazed over I told him I had to go. Next week I will see him he will ask me if I went hunting and I will say no, you would think that after a dz years of telling him I did not hunt he would get it by now but who knows. he also keeps asking me about "our pal tommy" I have NO clue who tommy is and I always tell him "i just missed him"

Lots-o-cash though. What always stopped me was that my old Balladeer is just fine. Some here might find it hard to beleive but perhaps one Ovation is enough. Brad .

I would love to try one out, but haven't found one for much below $1500, if at all. I believe they were made for export only, but a few of them found there way on to the domestic market. A friend of mine in Michigan got his hands on a couple of them and then put them on eBay.

However, I think a second one will happen in the next year. Good thing the factory is not depending on me. It just shows what a fine instrument it is! As I recall the Millenium model was priced over $2000. Brad

Very, very nice guitar. I would not say it played or sounded any better than a standard issue mid depth Elite (which is basically what it is). You pay a lot for the fact that it's rare and the inlays and stuff. Maybe it's worth it to some people, others maybe not. But it was a beautiful guitar. Dave

Now the rest of us suffer with gas and buck fever! And I told myself that this last guitar was going to be it for the rest of the year. But I just looked on fleabag and there's a 56 OOO-28 and a couple of rare Nationals and Christmas is coming so maybe just a few more. I haven't been on the bag for a month because the computer wouldn't sign on to it but havoing figured a way around that I got a touch of buckeroo. Ah well, so many guitars, so little time.....

It's a hell of a way to market things, lets make something really special, and then take it over seas and make it in 12 versions and 16 colors. The next thing you know their model names will start sounding like Japaneese and Korean cars.

There is definitely a blurring of the lines. The LEs generally have solid spruce tops, some have abalone binding, gold or pearloid tuners. Recent editions have been archtops ... the one I saw caused me to do a double-take ... I thought the top was about ready to pop off the bowl.

Also a background in music and the bands and the people in the bands, what they played and why. These are the type of people who were in high school/college in the late 60's early 70's and now brag (truthfully) that they never smoked pot. Maybe it's just me but there's something wrong with that picture I think.

Every once in awhile I get out my History of Ovation Guitars book and thumb through it. It is amazing how many breakthrough artists used these. Loggins and Messina were big names when I was a touring pro. I was intrigued thirty years ago by Ovations because Jim Messina played one. Later, I saw Boston use Ovations. Later, Paul Simon at Central Park. And perhaps what really struck me most was Al Dimeola playing warp speed chops on an Ovation. Perhaps part of the problem is a whole new generation of young players who may not connect with that kind of heritage. Martin may have one greater and longer, but Taylor?????? I digress....

How good of him to give model #, SN, etc. Actually, it is a dead ringer for my '83 Custom Balladeer 1612, except for the gold machines (mine are chrome). Also, it's hard to tell if there is bracing on the fretboard, or if that's just a reflection, which would help more accurately identify it. I guess it could be a Legend also. Seems to me the blue Ovation labels weren't used that long ago?? Nice guitar, but 2 "large", come on!!!
