Would it be that much more expensive if the USA models said Ovation USA on the headstock, or if there was an inlay on the headstock for the USA models? Would it cost that much more if it were on every USA model? Or is it simply better for business to keep it the way it is and have more happy people buying the lower priced models. Since this issue keeps coming up, I would suspect that the Ovation folks have pondered this a few million times.

The problem is that Ovation has made some models USA and Import very similar cosmetically. For example Celebrity 57 vs USA Balladeer. or Celebrity Deluxe vs. USA Elite. I'm not saying threy intentionally try to dup the buyer, but it does get pretty confusing. People don't complain about MOB's and Tangents. They are a different guitar that comes from a different place. How would you feel if you drove a nice expenseive Jaguar S type and now Ford came out with a cosmetic copy of it made in Mexico, called it a "Jag" and even put a leaper on the bonnet? Dave

However, I guess the theory from Ovation (just a guess) is that if someone that can't afford an Elite they might be able to swing a Celebrity Deluxe that looks similar. Or if they can't afford the Balladeer then a Celebrity 57 might work.

Then we have the mexican Fenders, breanded Fender but when sold are normally clearly named as Mexican Fender, so thats where Celeb/Korean fits in. Then the USA fenders, again just say Fender on them but are clearly marked up for sale as USA Fender. The onus is really on the seller but for all intent and purpose you are still buying an Ovation guitar. If people cant afford to spend over $1500 on a guitar why should they to get a quality guitar with stunning looks. If we didnt have the cheaper models where would we get the interest. I dont know many teenagers with that amount of cash available to spend on a guitar. Dont get me wrong im only 20 myself but i work hard and I spend my money on what i love, music, and bass guitars, i have a relatively expensive Viper acoustic bass, which cost in ther vacinity of £800 and yet i still use a Tanglewood Rebel electric bass. Well ive had my rant i suppose. Chris

Paul's guitar, by serial number says 1979, seller insisted it was 1978 - so '78-79. My late '80 1158 12-str had pearl. Does anyone have a 1974-1979 Custom Legend or an old catalog that would show it?

The catalog has a print year of 1976. The Custom Legend pictured here has the inlaid logo, and at that time only came in natural-4 color.
