I watched the GAC program Made in America again to see if I could pick up on some new Ovation building techniques. I saw one thing that I am very excited about. Seems Ovation has taken an approach that Taylor is using in mounting their necks. The GAC program shows a guitar having the area where the fingerboard would fit on the soundboard being routed out a bit. The new design will have the neck going all the way to the end of the fingerboard instead of stopping where the heel is. The fingerboard now has wood under it, and this fits into the slot routed out on the soundboard. This is a great idea, as it allows easy adjustment to neck angle problems. Taylor uses shims to deal with this, and I guess Ovation will do the same. The GAC program clearly shows a guy putting the neck on the body, and you can see the cavity where the soundboard is routed being filled as the neck sets into the top, as opposed to the fingerboard being glued to the top. The neck is bolted from the inside, but can be unbolted and removed without having to unglue the fingerboard because the fingerboard is just set in to the top. This is a great move, as it allows for the neck and fingerboard to be one all the way to the end of the neck. You no longer have the pivot point where the fingerboard leaves the neck, and it should make for nice straight necks.

So when are they going to start doing this "new neck"?
I have a Custom Legend being built as we type, will this have the new and improved neck?

Ya got me wondering...

cms-man, one more question. That black Elite that Aaron Tippin is looking at with Rick Hall has a black face on the electronics package. It is not silver like the OP 20,30,40 and 50 are. Are there new electronics on the horizon also?

I can't recall the guitar that they were looking at, but the black face doesnt ring any bells. As far as I know, the OP series is the newest that we have. About the other thing, I dont really know anything about any new neck attachment.

Ah heck, I don't care if my "in production" CL has the new neck or not... Is it going to be a girl or a boy? I'd love either one the same...
The new neck may have some bugs to work out, like a new car design...
The old neck, has been around for a while now, and has a proven track record...
Either way, I can't lose... :D

Yes, that would answer all the question's if you get to see every thing in person wouldn't it.
Hope to see many more than last year.
