Does anyone know what the 5 guitars are that are used in the VIP modelling for the 2008 Collectors. My manual says to consult the hangtag that came with the guitar, but none of my paperwork names the 5 guitars.

It appears from the video on Ovation's website that they can program the VIPs with different guitars. Do they actually do that or is a VIP the same regardless of which guitar it's plonked in. i.e. if mine broke and I ordered a new one would it make any difference if they didn't know what model I had?

My 2007 collectors VIP has 3 models which are the 2007 just using different mics, and two that are Adamas recorded with different mics. So as a wild ass guess, different applications probably have different guitars modeled.

Someone with reals facts should be along soon...

I had the same question about my LAV Koa and someone posted a list, but I forgot to print it. I suspect mine is the same as the 06 Collector, but not sure. I couldn't tell enough difference that it mattered to me, since I never plug it in anyway.

I like the sound of the guitar coming through the VIP. Image #3 dialed up to 100% sounds very close to what I hear purely acoustically on mine, which is impressive given that my amp is just a tiny Ibanez. I'm just wondering if the guitar used for that Image was actually a 2008 Collectors.

Hopefully someone with some real information will come along soon.

I will take a look at my paperwork tonight. I know my 2080 had that info in there somewhere and since they are both -5 VIP's, maybe they are the same.

I may be way off here, but my understanding is the vip imitates different studio mic setups (not different guitars) - usually high end (esxpensive) mic's

each model is setup with various mics and samples are taken, then the chip mimics the wave forms specific with that mic and that guitar - vips are not (as far as I know - programable with alternative setups, but the standalone fishman aura is (vip I believe was co-developed with fishman)- http://www.ovationtribute.com/Catalogues/VIP5_Preamp_Manual/VIP5_Pr...

For the 2007 Collectors, there is a video on the mothership website with Matt Smith. He describes each image. The first 3 are the exact guitar he is holding with different high end mics. THe last two he says are deep bowl Adamas.

Yeah. That Matt Smith video sort of hints that the images may be different in other guitars that the VIP is installed in. He says something like "In THIS guitar image #1 is ..."

So we know what the 2007 Collectors has in it's VIP but can only guess if the programs in the VIP for other guitars are the same.

different than aura in this way, I called fishman to see if I could pull my aura out of one alvarez and put it in another, he said it would sound shitty cause the images are specific to a guitar model - they actually charge a fee to have your private guitar imaged so you can use one in it - go figure?

I emailed Ovation and they said:

"The images are basically the same, tweaked for the 2K8. The Adamas that was recorded was a 1681, IIRC."

I went through all the case candy for my 2008C and found no hang tag or info showing the models on the 08C.

I then went through and found the hang tag for my 2080. It shows IMAGE SET 4, with the following images:

1. Large diaphram condenser, 2080
2. Small diaphram condensor, 2080
3. Large DC, 1680
4. Dynamic, 1680
5. Large DC, 1581

Not sure if they are the same, but that is all I can find.
