I guess DrDave is still in my head.
Here is a great example of just an O and a mic.
Sounds pretty good unplugged to me.

And I think its "just" an old Balladeer.
Other clips of this guy shows the label but I can't tell if it's the old foil kind.

The clip is HERE .

Great tune. I like his picking style - great rhythm.

Here's another link.. I thought this one sounds good too. Played in the style that he does it would fit in well w/ it's wood box cousins

watch the 3:00 to 4:00 min section

Looks like my 1617 s/b , sounds like it too , rich overtones , slightly diminished mid`s , articulate bass , I wonder what Mic. that was ?

Sweet. My starting point has always been the "O" UNPLUGGED. Piezo-only is NOT the whole story. Plus is you f*ck it up with lots of processing... it might as well be a cheesy electric!

Here's my that I shared some time ago... unplugged two cents

Must be the dain bramage out here in California, but when I brought up the clip in the first post, lady stonebobbo thought I was playing a banjo song. She didn't care much for the tone of that performance and it didn't do anything for me either.
