Played a Taylor at the Guitar Center today that actually struck me as being worth the money. It was a Grand Concert, 14 fret, slothead, I don't recall which level. GC was charging about $2100 for it and for the first time, I thought a Taylor was worth what was being charged for it. Not a bad little guitar.

Well, maybe a little over priced. I might have actually been interested if it had been about $1200, but it was a nice guitar.

I think you've nailed it, Paul. There's no question about it - you can occasionally find very nice Taylors. The problem is you usually can't find them at very nice prices. Play Tak's if you want the wood.

Weas, if I'm going to buy all wood, I'd go all the way up to a Collings. Understand there's going to be a factory tour next week.....

I'm bringing a plastic backed guitar with me, along with a wooden box guitar built in Japan. Dave

Never had the pleasure of sitting down with a Collings but always wanted to compare one to a Lowden and McPherson.

THAT would be a nice afternoon.

Well I own a Collings and Lowden.....totally different creatures but equally pleasing to play and listen to.

The Collings is crisper while the Lowden is more mellow but both play like a dream.

Can't help ya on the McPherson.

I wanted to respond to this yesterday but was dumb-struck until I got a fitfull nights sleep.
What's next?? Will Dave discover a Taylor he conciders worthy? Or will it be Cliff?? There was a time when a Doyle Dykes model was calling my name but my credit card limit stopped me.

This is all pretty frightening but I won't be concerned about this being the END OF CIVILIZATION until Bill buys a banjo.

I played a Taylor about a year ago that I throught sounded good and I posted about it here. But even tho it sounded good and played nice I had no desire own it. Doesn't mean there was anything wrong with it. As far as I know even Baskin-Robbins has vanilla on the menu. I can see why people Taylors and the company seems to do pretty well. It's just not for me and never will be.

I`ll take a guess and say it was my Taylor that Dave liked. I myself am not the biggest Taylor fan and ive not got the chance to play one of the newer all solid wood taks, but i`ve played a bunch of Taks over the years and never played one that did anything for me at all. Sorry guys and i hope to play one of the high end ones soon..

Davis had a Doyle Dykes at Amelia.
I've said many times that my Doyle Dykes (DDSM) is the only Taylor I have ever played that pulled me in.

Brad appears to have felt the tug when he played one.

All the rest suck  ....YMMV but I doubt it.

I played a 314 that was selling for $550 locally. I didn't buy it but i thought it was a pretty nice porch guitar at a great price. Just couldn't justify the expense at the time.

I had a Guild A412 in the 90's Best guitar I ever played but well a Taylor is also a nice axe. Guitars are like woman the best ones all have their own character, colours & tone qualities, but watch out for the cheap ones hahahaha.
Good luck my friend

Davis would be happy to sell his Doyle, Brad. He's got a TNV460SC in his hands now. Wonder how that happened......?????

I was thinking of bringing the 2080D. Bet they ain't never seen nuthin' like that in Austin.

I think I played that Grand Concert model. GC got one in used and the manager handed it to me. Blah. I remember wondering why they would call a guitar with so little volume a "Grand Concert."

The Taylor Big Baby is worth every cent of it's asking price. My perception of their line is that their least expensive guitar is by far their best value if we're evaluating solely on tone.

absolute ditto on paul t's comment. i owned both, a taylor "baby" and a "big baby". the bigger one is very impressive, especially for the dollars spent. it also holds up well in humid and drier environments.

I think what Paul says has been true for me. While i`ve had at least 5 Taylors that sold new for over 2 grand, and a couple of those were really sood. I`ve had a bunch of lower end like 310s and 410s that were close if not as good as the high end ones.

I didn't say I wanted to buy the damned guitar, just that it seemed to be worth the money (couple grand). It had a lot of the elements that I like (smaller body, slothead, good sound). I wasn't go to buy it.....

Probably a GC5 or GC8. Played both and they were really nice little guitars, good action, and comfortable to play. Not spectacular volume, and electronics are extra if I'm not mistaken.

If I had the expendable cash and nothing else to spend it on, I might take the plunge on one myself...'course the likelihood of that happening...

i've played the taylor 514 mini-jumbo ($3000 maple/spruce) recently,

it was very nice, but for less money I could get an 1778t and get the op pro, vip and iDEA preamps, have a ton of flexability and not have to panic about dingin the darn thing - and 1778t soulds about 90% as good as the 3 grand taylor - and maybe even get one of those ultras with the killer sunburst stain -
