Can an Ovation with an OP30 be upgraded by installing an OP40?

I thought I saw on some reliable post that these electronics are easily swapped?

Any idea what an OP40 unit would cost to switch with an OP30?

Prior to purchasing my CP2003 I did a lot of homework on which models had which pre-amp. When I went several music stores for the "hands on" portion of the research I found that several guitars had swapped units!

They probably do work - but more important - make sure you get the one you paid for if you are out shopping.

It looks like it would be easy to do between the OP30 & OP40 at least.

I successfully swapped my OP30 (broken battery holder)in my S771 Balladeer with an OP40... perfect matching! Just un-plug the 30 and plug-in the 40...

I purchased mine from Saint Al.... :)

St. Al will be checking a price for me to do the same when Ovation opens back up on 01/05/04.

How did you like the change? I especially want the notch filter.

I love it! I haven't really had to use the notch filter because I play in a Church Elder Care Band (Rest Homes, etc...)so we don't turn things up too much!

I REALLY LIKE the preset graphics equalizer settings... I play mine through my old Rickenbacher studio amp... nice warm tone... acoustic, only louder.

The swap was effortless... unplug/plugin.

I know you will like it!

I had the same question a few months ago. How about the OP-Pro? Adaptable? I think I heard the OP-50 wasn't because of the XLR output.

The Op-pro has an XLR output also, so it may be interchangeable with the Op-50 but not with the others

The OP-Pro doesn't always include the lo-Z output, or so I was told by Ovation. I e-mailed them when the LX series was announced because they had the OP-Pro and was told that the new LX series do not have a XLR output. These are the questions and the responses I received from info@ovation.com:

Some quick questions:
1) When can the LX series be ordered? I would guess after the NAMM show?

That would be correct, although I think dealers can place orders Jan. 1.

2) Do any of the LX series guitars include the Lo-Z connection, or is this just on the Al Dimeola Custom Legend?

The LX is currently not available with the XLR output.

3) Is the OP-Pro amp comparable to the OP-50? From the specs it appears that the OP-Pro is not as clean as the OP-30 (OP-Pro says >86 dB, OP-30 says >90+ dB).

It is just as clean, but the noise floor is different due to the different type of EQ.

Based on that response, the OP-Pro may be able to be directly swapped with the OP-30 and 40.

You're right, The Op-Pro manual states that the battery/phantom LED is used "To indicate phantom power for models equipped with an XLR output jack"

So it looks like some Op-Pro equipped models will have an XLR out, and others will not.
