I was wondering what "storage" method do you use when you are not playing your O. Do you usually place your guitar on a stand or put it in its case? I ordered Case: 9158-0 for my l778 and it seems like the lock don't work. Has anyone had the same problem.

The safest place is in the case. I recently got a new case and also thought the lock didn't work. But it turned out that you had to turn the key very hard (past where it seems to "stop"). Dave

I store all of mine in the case when not playing them. I use a stand for when I stop playing temporarily to get a drink or something, but when I am DONE playing, back in the case they go. I have the Ovation hard plastic cases for my CC01 and the 12-string, but the case that came with my Applause is the old hard cardboard type. I intend to get a new plastic type for it and throw out the old one(the foam support for the neck wants to stick to it).
Dave is right, you have to turn the key harder than you really want to to lock it---I know I was afraid I was going to break the key in the lock, but it really will work! :)

This topic has been hashed out several times before so you might want to do a search thru the archives.
I keep my guitars around the house on stands and on the walls. If they go into cases, they don't get played. My wife encourages this as she sees them as art as well as musical instruments. I've got two kids and two dogs and have never had a problem.

Paul is right. A guitar in a case will get picked up and played a lot less. Notice in my previous post that I said "the safest place is in the case". That's a fact. But I didn't say that was what I did. At least one guitar is always out on a stand ready for action. Dave

I have a wall mounted hanger (screwed directly into a wall stud) and there is always a guitar hanging there. It is out of the way, on an interior wall, in a room that with a humdifier.
I have a stand for when I need to set it down while playing.
If it isn't being played or on the wall hanger, it is in a hard case.

Always in the case. I don't want anything to happen my Ovations.
My brother has a comment regarding cars, that if you've had a car for 5 years and it looks brand new, you've been too anal about that car.
I think the same thing applies to guitars. I love my Ovations, take care of them, and enjoy them. But I'm not anal about them. I take much better care of my wife and kids. Them, I keep in cases.
I have an advantage in San Diego as to humidity...all of my guitars are on the wall hangers or stands, except for the Viper bass and the Les Paul that Les Paul gave me as I rarely play them. Out of sight, out of mind. In fact, while I was in Cleveland, my wife rearranged a couple of the guitars - the African Cherry 2002 Collectors (and a couple others) have been moved to the living room in front of the fireplace as she appreciates the beauty of the instruments. My daughter has two in prominent display on stands at her house...wonder what Les Paul thought when he was over to visit.

Keep mine on a stand except when moving it to & from somewhere. I want it acessable quickly.

Case is the "safest" place, but with any security situation, know your enemy. A guitar on a stand or hanging on the wall will get played more, and that's better for the guitar AND the player. If I had the room ALL of my guitars would be hanging, but I just don't have that much wall, so they sit in cases which is sad.
Miles, if you like guitars on walls, you should see Michael Wong's office. Incredible.
If I had as many guitars as you have, I would have to move and get a huge mansion...not at San Diego prices (then I couldn't afford the guitars). Maybe some good in that, as I run out of room on the walls, helps control the urge.
Being just up the coast from you, I'm lucky as well as humidity doesn't seem to be a problem for me.

As Paul mentioned, I do have most of my guitars on the wall. I recently got one of those 7-guitar stands to put all the solid bodies and it saved a ton of room. I keep a few at home, but they have to be in cases since my kids are still young and adventurous. I have also recently bought a Sears humidifier ($99 - great buy, digital control). I definitely agree that these guitars are work of art. I look up and admire them everyday while working. They inspire and sooths me at the same time.
Since two of my guitars are "work" guitars, they come out of the cases first thing "the morning after" and go on stands to air the "Gig Schtank" out of 'em. They generally stay there for when (and IF) I can find time to practice until the following weekend.
The SlotHead Adamas hangs on a very secure spot of wall by a hanger that's screwed to the wallstud by three BIG honkin' screws.

Wall hangers vs. stands. Little kids, and dogs can tip a stand over.
I like the art, and the temptation to stop whatever I was just doing and play a little. Wall hangers are on sale for less then $10.00 in the recent MF catalog.
For those that made the 03' Tour stop... They gave out a few metal Ovation "case" logos...
I drilled them into the wooden back support of the wall hanger... Everyone who enters the house knows what I play.
Like a reserved parking place...
PS John B. If any are left... A great give away for the 04' stop
