For those of you who like abalone, check this one out:

Elite

Check out the fret markers. How similar is this one to the "Book" Elite, aside from the color?

This must be one of the Nakao models, which have been discussed in other threads (search the archives). I have never seen one, as they are rare in the states. Samova had one, and perhaps some other members of the forum.

The main difference seems to be the extreme care put into visual presentation. The primary destination for the Nakao models has been Japan, where there are quite a few Ovation collectors and a market for some very high end guitars such as this one. Call it a Custom Elite Deluxe.

That's all I know about these.....

Same abalone inlays around body, neck and headstock as the Book Elite. Dave

Boy oh boy...this one sure is purdy. If the planets were just aligned a little differently I might have tryed for it.
Is this a mid-bowl?

I agree. I'm a basic natural, black or sunburst kind of guy. Leave the rest of the colors in the autobody shop. Dave

I don't mind the color so much
as I think they went a bit overboard on the abalone. The neck - maybe. The headstock - not.
Both - too much. Just my opinion.

Hard to tell sometimes in photos of the top as to reds/sunburst; agree with Cliff - I like the abalone but the headstock is a little too much.

Yeah, it might be a little extreme but it would sure look nice next to my plain, old, (but beautiful) Balladeer.

I have a really neat 1993 Elite N868 I acquired about a year ago. I like to call it a Custom Elite on Steroids. Much like the one listed, with the inlay up the fingerboard, but no intricate headstock inlay, although the Ovation logo is abalone inlay. It's the classic Elite tobaccoburst. Shallowbowl. Op24 electronics. Plays great with super action. Has a few dings but nothing out of the ordinary for a 10-year old guitar.

Don't know what it is about this guitar, but the bass response blows away my shallowbowl Legend.

Since I'm trying (at my wife's insistance) to downsize my guitar collection, I might be interested in letting it go if an OFC Member was interested. No idea what the market is. If you're interested, send me an email. I'll try to get some pix out as soon as I can.

If anyone cares to research for me, the Serial # is 469958

Pretty, but a little too much abalone---the headstock is over the top for my taste. The color definitely works for me. A brighter version of my ME 12-string.

Never did see the back of the neck....I presume it would have a 5-piece neck???

Yep, Brad, it would look good next to your Balladeer. Would be quite a constrast!
