Hi all,

was just wondering if anyone could help me out on the standard tuning for 5 sting basses. I have just got a Ovation Celebrity 5 string bass, i think CS27 and just wondered what the best tuning would be and if anyone knew much about the bass its self

Usually the 5th string is a Low B, with the remaining 4 as standard, giving BEADG.

That's the tuning I've been told by a friend who plays a 5 string - he even has a 6 string bass!

Was just wondering, is 5 strings and option on the B778 model?

Yes, You can get a 5 string B778. The low B sounds pretty tight too!

On Eric Clapton's "One More Car, One More Rider, Nathan East plays 5 string bass, both acoustic and solid body (Yamaha's I think). If you want to hear some good examples of what that low "B" sounds like. I have the DVD and really enjoy watching and listening. I would guess the CD sounds the same.

Sue has a 5 string. She rarely plays it. She wanted to try it but the guitar is HUGE is she is rather small.

I have a spare 4 string bass on which I use a five string set but leave off the 1st string, giving BEAD. Who needs the high G anyway, it's supposed to be a BASS!

Yeah! A Magnum sounds really good that way.
