Congratulations! May both of you have a long and melodious relationship. Nothing like a new guitar to start off your weekend.

I am envious, all I got today was the flu.

Congrats also.

Wife and I got our flu shots and so far they seem to have worked. There are no shots available to cure GAS, so I'll probably catch a virulant form of GAS as soon as you post any pictures. I hear the symptoms are a loud gasp followed by an uncontrollable writing of checks to people named Al, followed by extreme paupery and sitting in a corner of the poorhouse surrounded by Ovation collectibles, laughing maniacally as starvation sets in. I'm looking forward to the improvement in lifestyle.

Only use Beano when you don't want the bass section to play.

I believe "lights", which is .012 to .053.

I put on a set of what the hang tag named, the D'Addario EXP16's, .012's. I've been happy with them.

An aside concerning the D'Addario EXP38 - bought two sets of 12's - for a pin bridge fine, looks like a Christmas tree with the colored ball ends on an Ovation bridge. Otherwise, good strings.

really like the Elixer 12's I got through Nil...hard to believe but the GC was out of Elixer 12's when I was there last Saturday...needed for the GC and CL 12's (GC came, CL in transit.) Should have had patience and ordered by internet.

This board has been on this subject many times before, but this shows again how personal taste in strings is....I tried Elixir PolyWeb .010"s on my CC01, and I hated them so much I took them off after a week. I like Martin SP or D'Addario Phosphor Bronze, either .010" or .011".

Yep, D'Addario strings are very colorful if you look at your guitar below the bridge! Especially on a 12-string!

The elixer question again.....
Having tried them for quite a while now I think I generally don't like them. They're just not bright enough. They're great on old Nationals and on the Weissenborn. I've tried them on a 31 Martin and they just sounded dead. Same result on other Collings and Martins. The D'Ad just sound better, particularly on sensitive acoustics. I would guess this is less noticeable on Ovations with the exception of the Adamas which always was very sensitive to the strings.

The production string is a light guage 12-52 phosphor bronze, I think it's the J16 set? from D'Ad.

I agree that the Adamas is sensitive to strings....I changed out the .012" OEM set that was D.O.A.(2 years sitting in a shop will do that) after I bought my ME 12-string for .010" Phosphor Bronze D'Addarios and it took the bottom end out of the sound. Still pretty good, just not awesome like it was with the .012s.

I'm thinking of either going to .011" for the next set, or just getting heavier bass-side strings for more bottom end.

Try the Elixer nano-web strings. These have a lighter coating on them, and they sound great. To me they feel just like a regular bronze string, but they last a long time. All my Ovations have these on them, and they all sound plenty bright.

Beautiful guitar

I just heard myself utter an uncontrolled GASP, and begun writing checks to people named AL. I sold my wife's organs on Ebay, and made lewd offers of my daughter who is a high school teacher with a masters degree on a sex swap net board. I even found a net site that was interested in buying my children's baby pictures. Thank God I haven't slipped into a soulless desire to own something like that, only a strong immoral conscience is protecting me from terminal GAS. Would any of you like to meet my seester, she's a virgin at 69 years old (a little fund raising trick I learned in Nuevo Laredo boy's town 50 years ago).

Think how low a person without my hide bound conscience could slip when in the grip of GAS.
