I have a mid-80's Glen Campbell that I actually offered up for sale here recently. Since getting my 1718, I don't play it much at all. It is has been in it's case for almost a year. I took it out this past weekend and my first thought was, "Why are these strings so loose?" Then I looked further down and I could see the bridge has lifted off! The only thing holding it in place was the plastic pin from the saddle assembly. Oh well, that will be a repair for later. I'll never open a case without worry again!

When you leave a guitar unplayed for a great length of time, you should always loosen the strings. You should also keep a humidifier in the case.

Canterbury, what would you consider a great length of time?

Another reason to keep all my guitars out on wall hangars - like several others here have said, that way they all get played every week. Shame about your guitar. I'm sure Mother can make it like new.

I stand by my comment in the cases vs. hangers discussion. ;)

Sorry about the git, Mario. Sent it back to Mother and everything will be all right.

Is it better to always keep it in a case with a humidifier or hang it on the wall.... assuming it gets played nearly daily either way??

Or, have a humidifier in the room set to about 50%.

I've got the humidifier on in my house, with the heat on, I get the humidity up to 42 percent, and then put a humidifier into the guitar cases, and it gets up to 52%.
