Location: Phoenix AZ | As I've posted before, I very much like my '97 Parlor guitar and it sounds like a lot of others on this board do as well. I'm just curious, does anyone know how many of these were made with the 1-7/8 neck? I know it was far less than the standard neck. I also saw one nylon string version which had a real nylon tie bridge. Was this also offered standardly or was it a special order. Anybody know? Dave |

Location: Wooster, Ohio | The offical Ovation homepage tells you the number of the Collector guitars made. 1997-N was 935, which I assume means narrow. 1997-W was 233 which I assume means wide. http://www.ovationguitars.com/?fa=limited_editions
I just got a narrow neck which is the same width as my elite 93 Collectors, though somehow it feels narrower. As many have said these guitars are special. Just sing and are compact and just seem right (hard to explain). The price you can pick them up for, given the list of $1900 in 1997 is a real opportunity and a continuing reminder that Ovations are great guitars that are underapreciated in the aftermarket. The case is worth a third of what I paid.

Location: Wooster, Ohio | Dave, I was on the web and saw this nylon 1997 Collectors for sale. I think the store is in Argentina so it may help to know Spanish to negotiate. The guys that are posting on shipping guitars could talk about this one forever.

Location: Central Oregon | I wouldn't bet my last guitar pick on the numbers they cite on the Ovation website as far as the number of Ovation Collectors built during a given year. I just looked to see how many 2002 Collectors were made & it said 732. I looked in mine again to make sure I remembered correctly & I did- mine is "Number 733", says so right on the 2002 Collectors label. Hand written. No question that it's a 2002 Collectors. I wonder how many they really made?

Location: Wooster, Ohio | As far the the numbers of collectors are concerned vs. serial numbers, I remember cwk2 saying in a earlier post that they often didn't necessarily start with #1. Thus the serial numbers can be different from the number of guitars made without the help of advanced math. |

Why didn't I think of that? I guess I got the last one out the door. That's kinda cool. They certainly had figured out how to make 'em by the time they got to mine. I like this guitar a lot.

Ok ........... Let's try this again.....
If "001" is the 1st guitar made, then "732" would be the 732nd guitar made.

Location: 6 String Ranch | To clarify what I said a while ago, we didn't always start with 001. Sometimes we'd start mayb e around 50 and build the first few there and then go back and do the first ones later (maybe when all the bugs were worked out, so they'd all be firsts and no friggs) I don't recall instituting this policy, maybe DJ did, but it makes sence. When it started, how long it was done, what number they really started at and how many were made before they went back, and did they really go back and make them all? are questions I don't have the answer to. I suspect that they now start with number 1 and go from there. I also suspect that in the cearly years that sometimes they never went back so there might be a few years that there are a few less than the published number. The published number is pretty accurate, within 1 or 2 anyway! |
