...remember: Be Careful! A LITTLE turning goes a long way! |

Location: Utah | Depends on where the adjustment is made, at the body or at the peghead. Think of it in either case as either tightening a bolt or loosening a bolt. Lefty Loosey will cause the neck to bow upwards, increasing the height of the action. Righty Tighty will reduce the amount of upwards bowing, and even turn into rearward bowing.
If you make a small, 1/8 turn, adjustment, you can then check to see what effect it had. If you went the wrong way you can easily reverse it.
Make small adjustments, no more than 1/4 turn in a day. If it won't turn, don't force it. The few guitars I've adjusted all turned with no more than moderate force applied. It shouldn't take all your strength.
As mentioned, the truss rod adjusts the straightness of the neck. Indirectly it affects the height of the action, but only adjust the rod to get the neck relief correct. Then adjust the action height by adding or removing shims. |

Location: NW of Philadelphia | Thanks. There are no shims under he bridge (checked before restringing). I have about a 1/4 turn (2 x 1/8) so far. Not much change. Waiting awhile before going another 1/8. If I don't like it after that, into the shop it goes.
Tim: Great Instructions! They should be saved here somewhere. |

FYI The "righty tighty" - "lefty loosey" directions are spot on and apply from either end.
Tighten = Peghead moves DOWN
Loosen = Peghead moves UP (allows string tension to lift the peghead)
p.s. that "right" turning arrow graphic is a bit weird, but it's the only one I could find at the time.... ;) |

Location: NW of Philadelphia | The neck finally settled in. (it took 3x 1/8 turns) Its quite playable now, Its still stiffer than my others, but that was to be expected. Even the wife is impressed that she can fret the strings and plink off some nice ringing tones. Hell, the color is even growing on me. |
