| hey guys...! here's my first post...
As above, i am thinkin of getting this ovation guitar so i am now tryin to get more reviews on this model from you guys.. =D

Location: Boise, Idaho | I played one here at Guitar Center. I think it may be the best sounding non-USA guitar Ovation makes. Your opinion is the only one that matters, though. |

Location: south east Michigan | I like the couple Ultras that I was able to test drive.
I think that sound and quality wise they are closer to a USA made Ovation than the off shore Celebrity models.
I would say go for it with one qualification. Lately there has been some awesome deals on some models made 100% in USA. You owe yourself the chance to try to find one of those deals out there, if they are still around.

Never played one of these things, but depending on which color you get these are very pretty guitars.
If you are buying from a brick-n-mortar store make them give you a case.
Imports generally do not come with cases, which keeps the price low...
But if you can hit them up for a case, or at least a big discount on a case, you should do that.
And once you get it, we want photos and a review. :D |

Unfortunately, my friends have discouraged me on gettin an ovation guitar because of the back, which makes it uncomfortable to play as itmay slide off from your body..
Any idea on how to solve this prob...? |

Location: Marlton, NJ | This one has a contour bowl - it will not slide away from your body, sitting or standing. I have one with a contour bowl and it is very comfortable and stable. |

| Welcome. Your "friends" sound like they're repeating blather they heard others say, without ever trying to find out for themselves if it's true or not.
You're the one who's gonna be playing your guitar. Try it it out in the acoustic room, sitting down and standing up with a strap. And not just a few chord strums. Play that sucker like you're on stage.
If you do wind up getting it, once your "friends" hear you play it, and get a chance to play it themselves, I'll bet they'll start looking for Ovations, too. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | It's all subjective. Buy and play what feels best to you. Some people indeed don't like the way an Ovation guitar feels in their hands. Some people don't like the way wooden box guitars feel in their hands. Some people don't like anything at all. I'm way past "this" is better than "that" blah blah blah.
Folks here on this forum will tell you your friends are full of crap and Ovations are gods gift to the world, etc. That's why this is called the Ovation FAN Club. Shop around with your eyes, ears, hands and wallet and buy what YOU think is the best guitar for you. You may decide on an Ovation, or maybe something else. Doesn't matter as long as YOU are happy.

Location: SoCal | I was in a Guitar Center on Saturday and ended up talking with a young guy who's a salesman. Nice guy and we visited about guitars for about 10 minutes. I commented that I had my 87C in the car and he ended up playing it. With a big grin he said that it was way better than any Ovation they had in the store.
He probably isn't going to rush out and buy one, but it's important to keep an open mind. Dave's right. Play a lot of different guitars and buy the guitar that's right for you, not your friends. If all they know is what they've heard, or played in a GC, then they don't know much. Hell, you might decide that a Taylor is best for you....... |

Location: Michigan | I'm suprised no one mentioned the fact that at least the newer ones have like an anti-skid built in between the upper and lower bouts that keep them in place when playing sitting down.
At least my 1771LX's do.

Personally, I have trouble getting used to the corners on a wood box. (yes, I still have one)
The contour bowl is specifically designed to work around people's beer-guts.
After playing regular bowls, it took me awhile to get used to the contour-bowls...
And they seem strange when I stand... So I don't stand.
Like Dave sez, buy what you think is best for you.
The bias of other people should not matter in guitars, motorcycles, or anything for that matter.
Alot of people don't like Ovations... That's cool.
I don't like anchovies... Some folks do.

I never heard it until recently and thought maybe it was only for the super shallow bowls, but they put the anti-skid patch on some of the early deep bowls. They always fit me better than the box guitars. I'd cut a groove by my armpit with those. |

+1 Contour bowl is not going anywhere, sticks like s*&t to a blanket when you're sitting down. |
