Very attractive prices. I have a feeling Ovation is going to sell a bunch of these.

that company continuously violates map pricing on Hamer and Ovation and other Kaman gear yet no one seems to care.
At times they sell instruments as used that are new and sell them under cost. I have no clue how they stay in business or why KMC tolerates their business practices.

They are not the only ones who do it either. Must make it hard for those who do follow the rules.

Could it be that there's a "loop hole" in that they're not "selling" but putting up for open "auction"?

Semantics . . . I know.

Perhaps advertising such prices in Cyberspace is viewed upon as "safe haven" as opposed to having them tagged as such on the sales floor or traditional publications?

I contacted dealer this past week that had a used amp on Ebay that hadn't sold after several tries and tried to offer him less that he had it listed for. He told me that he couldn't sell me the used amp for less but he could sell me a brand new one for the same price as the used one and that actually, they never really sell the used ones. They just use it to get around the "30% off list" rule that the manufacturer lays down. Whenever anyone actually wins the auction for the used amp, they send them a brand new one for the same price.

that is the problem Bill. I have informed them of this over and over and for the life of me I have no clue how they can sell gear for under cost.
but I will find out.

Perhaps they have a "different" cost.

Interesting that there are no bids on these.

If you were looking for an LX, it would be easy to overlook these, as they don't have 'LX' as a separate keyword.

If you weren't aware of what an LX was, you'd just see these as overpriced std models.

Personally, I wouldn't do business with them due to the numerous complaints about long ship times. Probably means they don't order the guitar themselves until you win the bid. Yikes!

Good luck trying to fight these sorts, Al. Must make it hard to do business if your peers aren't playing by the same rules.

Can anyone really tell the difference between a AA and a AAA spruce top? I know I can't. Dave

PS - Cliff, don't even start with the D vs. DD jokes ...

   the least expensive new Ovation I can find with AAA is $1400. call me a heathen, but I'll stick with my lowly A-grade LX for $800, thanks! :)

Congrstulations dvd - it appears that the 1771LX is a great bargain. Many of us however buy much more than we "need" and then we still want something better.

Oh absolutely! I have no quarrel with that! I'm sure someday I'll be pining for something better myself! different strokes and all that.

I just was confused by the implication that one should be able to get into AAA tops in this price range, which, at least for new Ovations, simply isn't the case.

Or maybe I just didn't get enough sleep last night and misunderstood Steve's statement.

...i just find it unusual that ovation releases new usa guitars with 'single A' tops; seems like i remember more AA and AAA tops in the past, but that's ok, i guess it's more cosmetics now than than anything else; we could never hear a discernable audio improvement between the three...

I think you could see/hear a difference if the top of the AAA, top of the AA, and top of the A were used in identical guitars - same bowl, centerhole, bracing, etc.

We know that the best of the grade might be used for natural v. dark sunburst due to appearance. Would a lower AAA grade be similar to a higher AA grade? Possible but probably not as likely since I would assume the tops they used for natural would be based solely on appearance.

In the LX, most likely there was insufficient difference in sound due to the other improvements to warrant a higher grading. Guess that's why they say play before buy...the collective quality of all parts either sounds and plays well or it doesn't. Great that we are getting some reviews from those who have played the LX.

I just hope I get to play one this weekend at the Orlando show. Good luck to everyone coming in from the frozen north.
