I mentioned this one in my post re: GAS relief.

The damn acoustic room was so dark (not to mention musty) that I couldn't make out the tag, let alone the sticker in the bowl.

Deep bowl. Straight grained carbon fiber, blue. either an OP40 or OP50 preamp. The headstock was carved. The bridge was carved. Satin "wood" feel neck. Gold hardware. Appeared to be one piece neck (no stripes I could see).

The reason I'm asking... is I DONT want that worn neck guitar, but man the tone is haunting me here. It was just super. I'm wondering what THAT is, and what new Adamas would be comparable.

The carved headstock & bridge lack of neck laminates would suggest an Adamas 1, but the pre-amps would suggest an SMT or CVT. Are you sure about the details?

I played an Adamas for the first time yesterday! Driving back from skiing (about 4 miles west of Pontiac, Michigan)I saw "GUITAR WORLD". I could have spent quite a while there but time pressed. LOTS of guitars and the best selection of Ovation I have yet seen. Shallow, mid, deep, Hartford, Korea, 12 strings and a mandolin, all within reach.
The Adamas had a deep had a wooven top. I noticed a difference in range. The lows were very low and the highs were very crisp.
I need to spend more time there. AND write doen the model numbers.

Very sure on the detais - carved head and bridge, and I had to figure out how to use the tuner - it was either an OP-40 or OP-50.

I gotta get out there again and see what it was.

If it has a tuner and carved head/bridge it must be a late model Adamas 1 with an Optima. What shape was the preamp?

". . . Straight grained carbon fiber, blue. . ."

Was it a smooth, shiny top that had an almost psuedo-woodgrain look to it, or did it have a textured, almost "cordouroy" finish to it?

The tuner was shaped like and colored silver like the OP40 and OP50 that I've seen on the Ovation website. I'd call it sorta peanut shaped, not square. I pressed the button on the end and it popped up.

The fibre was pseuo woodgrain - looked like the SMT stuff on the website.

Deep bowl, no cutaway...and hard to see inlays.

The tuner worked but I didn't plug it in - just played acoustically.

And the binding looked like black coiled rope.

Curious. That doesn't fit with any of the current catalog models. Could be a custom order or an export model. Al, any ideas

I gotta sneak back over there, maybe tomorrow and see what they're calling that thing.

Could this be a bastard - a parts axe?
