Ok, you Adamas junkies, help me out here!

How does the acoustic sound of the new Adamas guitars compare with the earliest ones from '77 through the 80's; the ones I think of as the "classic" Adamas guitars with the ornate carvings and extra-deep sparkley bowls?

I have been hunting for a used one on the auction sites, but the ones that are in really good condition go for some steep bucks!

They are VERY different guitars. There is a reason that the ones you have been looking for go for so much money. Dave

Yeah...I had a '78 beige top that I really regret letting go of years ago. One of those things that make me go...."AHHHHHHHHH! WHAT A GOOBER!!"

If you get a textured top guitar they are very good and can compare to the old guitars but IMHO the cvt and smt although they sound good are not as great as the textrued tops of ANY vintage

I think I ran across a few of them today. ;)

That textured top must be a "lost art," huh?

Y'know, after reading this thread when I got home last night I realized that due to my hectic work schedule and gigs, I hadn't played my SlotHead since the holidays!

Took it down off the wall, and with the exception of tweaking the low D string (DoubleDrop"D" tuning) slightly, the tuning was still "spot on"! Sat down in the kitchen with a snifter of Myers Dark and the guitar and started to "have at it".

Oofah! I almost forgot what this thing is capable of!!

THANK YOU Charlie!!! . . . and THANK YOU Bill!!!!

I'll not let it set "unattended" for this long AGAIN! ;)

Ya know Cliff, if you're not gonna play the slothead that much, you oughta sell it to somebody who will. Like me.

Checked out Al's site. I REALLY like the W681-T2. What is the model number for the cutaway version of that guitar? I think I saw one on on eBay about a year ago. It needs to go on my wish list. Also, am I guessing right that those models with an "A" at the end of the model # don't have electronics? Couldn't really tell for sure from the pictures.

JohnnyMac - There's lot's of photos of textured top Adamas in the gallery. Among others check out samova, moodypi, playadamas, standingovation, cliff, 1687adamasguy, biglouis, bluebird, jesse, msb, patsbro, paul templeman. Dave

PS - or just use the gallery search function, which is exactly what I did ...

Love my CVT 12, but I will admit those old textured tops definitely had an amazing sound. If I can get some extra bucks a 6 string will be mine someday :)

I've got that "Oh, yeah... I knew all about those" feeling about now... I guess I never realized the textured top models had a class of their own. I saved a couple of pics from that guitar I saw a while back on eBay. The ad said it was a 1587. Looks pretty much identical to the W681-T2 on Al's website, except it has a cutaway. Does that sound right?
