I absolutely love what they did with the epaulets. If your a fan of the Elite's this should be reason enough to get an LX. Very playable, very even on the tone - down low it as a real growl and the high end is defined but not brassy. More often I finger pick with hammer-ons and pulls - THERE IS REAL DEPTH COMING OUT OF THIS GUITAR! My direct comparison is a Guild D50 built in 1967. The LX (brand new out of the box) has the low end of the dreadnaught. It has a damn good start on the 36 years of tone as well. And nothing can project like an Ovation! I would like to extend an open invitation to any OFC Members in the area to give me a call and come see for yourself. I feel genuinely blessed to have this guitar and I am thankful to all of you for your input, tolerance and support. I'll post pics as soon as I can borrow a higher res camera!

Seems that in this part of Western Washington (pronounced worsh-ing-tin) it's dark and wet when I get up and dark and wet when I get home. I've got a small digital camera with no flash. But I've got a really kewl guitar now! more to follow...

You hit the nail on the head with the low growl comment. And how about the sustain? I feel like I can hold a chord on my Balladeer LX until next Tuesday, but I can't compare that to other guitars. Funny how all of us LX'ers so far are left-coasters! California, Oregon, and now Washington are all represented.

I also like the way they made the preamp the same color as the bowl! (no more silver "kidney") . . . . KakaduDreamer, your Legend LX is a gorgeous guitar too! Nice combination of the black bridge, rosette, fretboard, and peghead!! (it's color coordinated! :D ) * * * * Mike

This has been a tradional weak spot and the wood is now thicker from the back of the headstock down onto the top of the neck. Good job O! I'll correct myself on this. I just looked at some pics of a SMT and it looks the same. Shows you how long it's been since I've picked up and really looked at a new Ovation. That's a sad comment.

I like the attention to detail that they took in the overall appearance as well. I particularly like the inlay work. Very nice! Probably the only "pet peeve" that I have is with the truss rod cover. I really like the shape and material of it. A big improvement over the usual plastic. The problem I have is with the "LX" lettering. It looks like a derivation of a Chancery Cursive style of letter. Script style letters are designed using "caps" followed by lower case letters to form words/names. There's kind of an "unwritten law" amongst graphic designers that you don't use certain letter styles (Old English being another) in "caps" only. Years ago, I turned down several jobs where people would want vehicles hand-lettered using Script or Old English "caps". They'd just flip through a font book and say ". . these look real "fancy", . . I want these! . . ." not knowing their intended use. It cost me some revenue, but it was a "principal" issue. A Piss-Ant "peeve", I'll admit. But when you've been doing it practially every day for most of your life, little things like that stick out. I do hope that these guitars get Ovation's into the hands of the guitar "snobs" and reclaim their rightful place in the acoustic market. That and the new SlotHead Adamas which strangely seems to be "nowhere". Whazzzup w'DAT??

I've been trying to get my Wife to install the toilet paper roll so that it comes off of the top - You know, the right way! But will she listen? Nooooooooooooooooo!

Secondly, I'm not much of a Campbellian. I know what you mean about the whole "toilet paper roll" thing. My ex-wife was the same way. It's amazing what you can do with a shovel and a bag of QuikLime. The garden's never looked lovlier!

There's gotta be song you could write about the Ex-wife working in the garden! On a serious note - I would consider swapping Pearloid tuner knobs for the gold. Is this possible and is it considered sacreligious?

Joined: February 2003 Posts: 2177 Location: the BIG Metropolis of TR | MWoody, Replacing the tuner buttons to pearloid is a GREAT upgrade (IMHO :) ) Myself and atleast another OFC'er (Standingovation) likes the look of the pearloid buttons!(good looks and low maintenance)you don't have to worry about wiping the tuner buttons down when you're finished playing like you do with the gold(especially)or chrome! The tuners on your guitar are Schallers and you can buy replacement buttons from - Stewmac You want to get the "large" set for your guitar!! The swap is easy and if you ever decide to put the guitar back "original" you'll have a "pristine" set of gold ones!!! * * * * Mike  (call the factory to see if you can get you a GEN-U-WINE Glen Campbell truss rod cover also!!! :D )

What I just saw that I REALLY didn't like is that the truss rod cover on the "New England Burst" Standard Elite LX at Elderly is WOODGRAIN, a different type of woodgrain than on the rest of the guitar!!!!! YUCK!!!!! Why would you put a woodgrain cover on a guitar with a black headstock???? Check it out for yourself.... http://www.elderly.com/new_instruments/items/6778LX-NEB.htm Gorgeous guitar otherwise. I like the way the epaulets are done, which is saying a lot,as I'm not a big epaulet fan. :-) :-) totally off topic, feel free to PM me a reply.. given your proximity to Seattle (just across the Sound, right?)... any good restaurant recommendations? I'm up from Portland for the weekend, and would welcome any suggestions. Thanks!

I don't get there too often but what I remember is the Bucca de Peppa. Cheesy decorations and wonderful Italian atmosphere. Past that I would check out the Seattle PI for opinions.
