My daughter Kaki is featured in the Master Class section of the March 2004 edition of Guitar Player Magazine. On page 126, the headline reads: "Advanced Lesson, Kaki King--Acoustic Guru." She describes how to put a guitar into one of her open tunings and then demonstrates one of her techniques. The lesson is accompanied by a very nice color photo of her with the headstock of her Adamas close to her face.

GP has placed a Master Class teaser on their web site:

Attaboy Dave! (sorry, couldn’t pass it up  ) Keep us posted. I'd like to follow her career, as I think it's going places. Plus I love to watch and listen to her play!

Wow, Kaki King is your daughter? I'm a huge fan--very cool! I will check that out! Do you play also? I assume you do, but haven't checked out the site much!

Suzencarson, any fan of Kaki is a friend of mine. Let me welcome you to this great board--she and I have a lot of friends here. To answer a few of your questions, let me just say that even on my best days, I wasn't much of a picker. In fact, Kaki's main guitar--the 1986 Adamas II 1581-7 (one of my best trades ever- swapped a Rickenbacker 320 for it in 1990) was my guitar until I gave it to her in 1995. She went on to make her first CD with this fantastic instrument.

If you're interested, and have a little time to spare, you ought to use the search feature of this board. Simply search under my member number, and you'll get quite a few hits posted about her. Also, don't miss the classic "Hi Sis" posted by Al on August 12 last year.

Again, welcome to OFC.

Best regards--

Dave

Thanks for the tip, I have been going through my GP slowly and had not got to that page yet or I would have surely pointed it out here. Good shot of Kaki and her Ovation, I haven't tried the ideas she proposes but I will, I like her ideas about tunings as my wife and I have become big fans of the Beegees "One Night Only" video and I noted that Barry uses open tuning and gets some great sound as the main rythym player.

I still want to remark to everybody how difficult it is for an instrumentalist like Kaki to become a star. It speaks volumes to her talent.

I taped the rerun of Conan O'Brian when Kaki was on, and have watched it several times. I still am just AMAZED at the sound she gets out of that Adamas.

Getting a lesson from Kaki in Guitar Player is like getting a lesson from Jimi Hendrix in 1967......I will make sure I buy that issue!
