Location: Virginia Beach | Hi,
I'm an Ovation/Adamas collector & just purchased a used guitar. It's a beauty but I'm a little confused as to what it is, when it was made. The headstock says OVATION and the serial number is 6 digests beginning with 53. However the label says "ADAMAS by Ovation". Now every Adamas I've previously owned said "Adamas" on the headstock. This guitar appears to be in perfect condition, no evidence of the headstock being a replacement. It has all the other characteristics of an Adamas. Does anybody have any info on this model?
Thanks! |

Location: Minden, Nebraska | I have had several Adamas guitars with Ovation logos on the headstock, but Adamas labels in the guitar. The story I was given is that the factory ran out of the Adamas logos for a while, and substituted.
I am pretty sure the 1897 is the supershallow bowl Adamas that was made in a limited run for Sam Ash. The several of those I have seen all had Ovation logos on the headstock. |

Location: SoCal | Pics were sent to me and they tend to confirm what you are saying. It's definitly a new style Adamas (hey, to me, an Adamas is from about 1994 and before, not after), with the Ovation logo on the headstock. |

Location: NJ | in the mid 90's Ovation decided to stop using the Adamas logo, this did not go over too well so there are about a year of guitars out there that have Ovation on the headstock but are Adamas smts |

Good to see you on the OFC. You purchased my guitar! Small world. There is not alot of info available from even from Ovation on this model. It is an Adamas, though the headstock reads Ovation. It was produced at a time when Ovation was attempting to integrate their the Adamas line, though I have heard various explainations. This model was produced in very liited quanities for Sam Ash and as a result is rare. There are postings listed on this site for 1897 that will yeild similar comments. I could forward to you my email exchange with Kaman...
