Todays search for GAS relief brought me back to Sam Ash in Pompano/Ft Lauderdale.

They had a previously-abused Custom Legend with a cracked top for $800, and a "closeout/floor-model" Custom Legend for $1200.

I did get to play a Gibby J(something) jumbo with no electrics. It sounded just about like the CL with the cracked top.

They DID have one guitar marked Balladeer-LX, which was in fact not a Balladeer-LX but just a Balladeer with midsize bowl. The "expert" staff tried to tell me that any midsize Balladeer was an LX. Right. I had to get out quick after that, because "Stairway to Heaven" was setting in pretty bad in the place.

Guitar Center in Hallendale said come back today, since they had new Ovations arrive Friday. !YaY!(not). They basically had the $299 and $499 Celebrity models. I found a greenish one with outrageously nice action and neck, but it sounded like a Quaker-Oats box. They also had a black Custom Legend that was pretty scratched up, for $1300. It played and sounded VERY nice. Nicer in fact than the one at SA. However, with the scratches were the beginnings of quite visible (but not yet harmful) fret wear. Jeeze.

Tomorrrow - the northern wastelands of northern Palm Beach County or maybe down to SA in Miami Lakes. Dunno which yet.

Maybe this could help your gas attack, if you like 12 strings....

Is that a juicy carrot dangling out there or what?

I suggest that Ovation stops sending to music stores, loads up a bunch of busses and puts a road show in every town and hamlet. Test drive em with knowledgable Staff and order them on the internet.

I'm gonna truck up there Monday after work. They acutally have an SMT in stock too, which is what I want to listen to.

The "quick quote" price on the SMT was only $1320, shipped (with case of course). Thats a great price!
