So I was surfing through the Official Ovation website, clicked on Steve Lukather and learned how the Toto guitarist really digs his Adamas 1597-4G. So I clicked on the TOTO link to go to their website. I surfed through all of Lukather's pictures. Low and behold... he wasn't playing an Adamas or any Ovation in any of them...

Yes, the Ovation endorsment group is a little shallow these days. You know it's bad when you look at the back of the Ovation catalog and see Cyndi Lauper plays Ovations. GEEEZZZZZ!

Let's do something about that!

Who would you like to see playing an "O"?

We'll send them 2197 letter's of encouragement!

I'd like to see:

George "Dubya" Bush on a Celeb Twin Neck

Arnold Schwarzenegger on the MOB

Martha Stewart gettin down with a Tangent

". . George "Dubya" Bush on a Celeb Twin Neck . ."

That's a good idea . . . that way Cheney could do the actual PLAYING on the other neck!

:D

I got Jerry Reed back to playing an Ovation a/c gut string back in the 80's. But, he would play an ironing board. LOL!!

I honestly think that I was the only guy in Nashville that really *used* Ovations in the last 25 years. The engineers always loved the GC Artist I would bring into sessions. They usually thought it was a D-18.

I'd like to play as well as Jerry on an ironing board.

I heard dat! It is so sad that he doesn't play much anymore. He has a "spot" on his brain that gives him Parkinsons-like symptons. He still writes great stuff for the guitar, but just can't pull it off.

I hadn't heard that about Jerry. How long has he had the problem? He's been a true hero of mine for 30 years. I'll pull out all the time the dvd he and Chet recorded back in 1992, as well as tapes of the GC Goodtime Hour that have Jerry picking.

I know that his official web page went down about 6 months ago. Is this related?

It was a true honor to work for Jerry, even though it was a 24/7 gig. Hard work.

He was diagnosed with this condtion about 5 years ago and it has gotten progressively worse. There is a very successful experimental treatment for this "spot," but Jerry says it scares him more than disease.

That Bottom Line gig back in '92 was wonderful! Remember how Jerry couldn't get his gut string plugged in? That's Jerry. LOL!!

Interesting, Goober, Jerry played at my (very, very, small) hometown's Harvest Picnic in IL last August....my dad saw him and said he was really good, the best entertainment they had ever had. I'll have to ask him if he played guitar.

Yep, Cyndi Lauper can play my Ovation, too....

Who do I want to see play Ovation???? I'd like to see Nancy Wilson of Heart go back to playing an Ovation 6-string regularly instead of the Takamines and the Martin she has been using. She still does use Ovation 12-strings, though.

Roger

1976 Applause AA14-4 6-String
1981 Ovation 1118-1 Glen Campbell 12-string
2001 Adamas 1598-MERB Melissa Etheridge 12-String
2003 Celebrity CC01 Spruce Top 6-String

Sorry to here that about Jerry Reed I have always enjoyed his playing. I remember seeing Glen Campbell and Jerry in concert at the Cincinnati Gardens just before Jerry was a regular on The Goodtime Hour. It was a hell of a show by Glen and Jerry and the first time for me to see and hear an Ovation guitar live. Needless to say it left a long lasting impression.

Now I know Goober = BB.

Hizzoner,

Steve Lukather plays the Ovations (He also has a 12 string) live. I don't know the details of his endorsement with Ovation, but I've seen him live a couple of times last year and he never plays another instrument than his SMT when playing acoustically. He has a solospot in the set where he really makes the fretboard smoke. Even his backup guitarplayer Tony Spinner plays Legends now. That said, Toto is mainly an electric guitar orientated band and Luke has a signature Music Man, which he has been playing for over ten years now. That's the guitar he mainly promotes.

When he was playing taylors he didn't advertise them as well.

A link to his own site:

http://www.stevelukather.net/Gear.aspx

Prominently there on the first pic.

And playing it live:

Alex Lifeson of Rush has been playing Ovations for years. I guess he just doesn't have an endorsement deal with ovation.

Hey Goob:

You never did tell us if you had the Bluebird 12 string that belonged to GC? If so, Bluebird, up in Nova Scottia did good in having it put back together.

Yes, I sold that guitar to Bluebird. One of the two guitar sell-offs I really regret. Wayne has had it restored to its full glory, and it does look great!

I saw several Heart concerts early on in their career. I LOVED the sound of Nancy Wilson's Ovation. The full acoustic sound really sold me! It sure would brighten up Ovations website with a few pictures on Nancy on there!!!

Hey Goober!

...just wanted to see how it felt to say "Hey Goober!" Always looked like so much fun on the Andy Griffin Show. Wish I was living near Mt. Pilot right about now, although it was a balmy -6 this morning, as compared to the -35 a week or so ago.

Tell Andy Norseman says "hey"!

Goob:

I had a shot at buying that Bluebird thru my buddy Clark Byron ( http://www.clarkbyron.net ) who you were corresponding with at the time. I had just purchased Big Blue, and a house and was feeling very poor. One of many missed opportunties that I regret.

Awfully nice to have you on the board.

If Homer Simpson played an Ovation on an episode with Melissa Etheridge, sales would skyrocket! Hey... maybe he should play a Legend LX???!!!
