FWIW, I now have a small gallery in the members photo section. This guitar sounds soooooooo damn good!! Very NM condition. I hope to post pics of my custom 1717-X soon. Ciao!

Hey Goob:

I just tried to send the following message to you via email, but your box is full.

"Saw the pics of your Deluxe Balladeer. Is it everything you remember from your first one? The wood on the neck is just wonderful. Looks like the top is in great shape as well.

Paul Templeman bought one last year on ebay from a pawn shop in Hollywood, but it was never shipped. So I went up there a sprang it loose, kept it for a week, then shipped it off to Paul. Spoiled me forever. So I went out and bought one.

You've played LX's. How does the sound compare? I hit the big 5-0 later this year and may special order a Legend LX with the old style Legend fret markers, abalone everywhere a 5 point bridge. If it's as good as I think it is. Haven't played one yet in a good setting."

Sorry about the e-mail thing. I get e-mails from some and not from others the past few days. I archived just to be sure.

Paul, I honestly feel it is grossly unfair to compare a fresh production model *anything* with a 36 year-old fine instrument like this. Plus, I am REALLY picky! Can you say anal? LOL! Sure, I knew you could. ;)

That said, after playing two samples (one Elite and one Legend), I would not buy either of the samples I played based on sound. They were extremely brittle sounding, yet lacked what I call "clarity." Maybe my local dealer got two "bums?" Also, the necks seemed totally out of character (feel wise) for Ovations. They sort of reminded me on of an old Gibson neck: bigger like a baseball bat. I have small fingers, so that will not fly!

The good news: the workmanship/detail was fantastic, the wieght was great (felt very much like an acoustic without all the gear inside), and I felt like maybe the potential was there for the future.

The LX, IMO, is a step in the right direction. If I find the *right* one, I just may buy it. But for now, I don't have the time to buy an axe for potential. Crap, I'm 50!!!! ;)

BTW, as for B321, can you say '41 D-28? :)

Of course, I prefer '54-'56 D-18's.

"...'41 D-28..."

Now there's a set of golden ears, Goober! I knew the sound of the shiney DB's was vintage Martin, but year and model?? I'm impressed! :)
