Location: On the beach in Southwest Florida | Surprise #1: They had a Celebrity Deluxe with a solid top in stock! I had never heard of such a thing & it was quite pretty as well. It sounded better than any Celebrity Deluxe I had tested in the past. There was a small plastic Ovation sticker (like an oil change reminder) touting the solid top.
Surprise #2: They had a Balladeer LX in stock. I was a lot less impressed than I was prepared to be. I'd have to rate it well below my Elite T in sound quality and not much above the solid top CD. The LX was better looking in person than in the pictures of it, but the CD was better looking (sort of a birds eye maple look). |

Yep. Did the LX sound harsh and brittle to you, Peter? |

Location: Athens, GA & Gnashville | It could just be an inconsistency issue, Paul. But IMHO, and it is just that, it sounds like overcompensation of design to me. Hopefully, I will play one that blows me away soon. But, I don't think extra bowl depth will take away the tinniness that I experienced.
And I am the guy that likes the midrange of the old artist bowl and bracing? Go figure. |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | As far as the LX, I'm not convinced...if you read my topic I just started, I chose a non-LX 1777 over a 6778 LX today. "Brittle" is a good description of the sound of the 6778.
Paul, the deep bowl would have helped. It lacked richness and depth. But why does the mid-bowl non-LX Legend have it????

Location: Upper Left USA | A deep bowl would be nice. The harshness of the LX? Would have been nice to hear a couple of the same model but that has been discussed as well. |

Location: On the beach in Southwest Florida | I knew my Elite T has a much stonger bottom end than the 1771LX (without being weak on top), but until you mentioned it it didn't snap that the problem was an overall tinny sound on the LX. Finger picking did not make it as noticable as flat picking but it was definately there. |
