Got my fingers crossed on this immaculate 25 year-old Legend. It's so close to being mine that I ... will cry if someone outbids me.

I'm not sure I really approve of this, but it's won me a few.

Auction ended & the crossed fingers worked & less than $300 US to boot. I'm stoked!

May try that sniper thing in a future auction. I know how I lost a few auctions now. As it turns out, I believe that I'm ending up with the best deal of all ones that I bid upon.

I wouldn't do that "sniper thing" if I was you. I tried that a few times & ended up regretting it every time, for one reason or another. I think it makes for bad karma or something.

What are the negatives (other than Karma)? Picture posted in gallery now.

Ummm, when you go to bed that night you will know that somewhere, someone thinks you're an asshole.

Congrats on the Legend. I had a natural one just like it and it was my first Ovation. The only reason I sold it was it did not have a pickup, and I was playing alot more places. That guitar is a classic Ovation, and I know you will love it.

Congrats on the nice old Legend...I may be looking for one, too, eventually.

Sniping is a perfectly valid way of winning an auction on eBay....I think the automatic sniping is a little upsetting, though.

EVERYBODY thinks somebody else is an asshole, so who cares about that???? Hopefully we each can look at ourselves in the mirror in the morning and not feel like a jerk.

Thanks. I keep an acoustic only in my office to play when I get a minute & it looks like this will be the one I keep there.

I have waited to the very last moment to bid, just to win, and to hell with every one else. Not with any program either, just my watch. It’s very exciting! What a rush! Yet, it does give me the feeling of being a chicken shit, so I only do it if it’s something I really, really want. I rub my hands together like Silas Marner and give an evil laugh. Ahahaha! My family thinks I’m nuts, but I figure I might as well act the part, if I’m going to do crap like that.
I do avoid the mirror the next morning, just to avoid the brow beating I figure I’ll get.

Congratulations, Pete!

Sounds like you got a really great deal... Enjoy!

Regarding the subject of "sniping": I know in the early days of eBay, it was considered a much frowned upon tactic. However, I've come to the realization--right or wrong--that if you care anything at all about actually winning the item you're bidding on, then it's pointless to bid early. There is inevitiblly going to be at least one other person lurking around out there just waiting to "pop you off" at the end. Now, I don't know much about karma (except that the instant kind can knock you right off your feet), but for me, it's simply a matter of, "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em."

Good explanation Dale. That's how I felt too. But it seems like every time I did that *something* didn't go well. One guy tried to shaft me on shipping, another time what I got wasn't nearly as nice as I thought it was going to be & it took forever to get the deal done. The other time something went less than smoothly. There always seemed to be something so I just quit doing it.
Then there's that pesky mirror thing....
Peterbright, how would you have felt if someone had stolen your Legend in the last five seconds of that auction?
Granted, there's technically nothing wrong with sniping, but like Dale said, it's makes me feel like a chickenshit.
But that's just me.

Well I didn't snipe & won anyway on this one. I bid a number of times on it. The only insurance I had was I had an additional bid in higher than the one I won with in case someone put in $5 more at the last minute. That's happened to me a couple of times. This must be my week on EBay as my 12 sting auction closes in 4 hours and its already up to well over what I paid for it already.

I thought "snipe" was something that you hunted in a bog . . . . .

Congrats on buying and selling! Eboy can be a blast, and sometimes very rewarding. I’ve been known to use the “buy it now” feature when the price is right in the first place. So far, Eboy has both saved and cost me money!
Nils, I guess so far I’d say I’ve been lucky. The times I did get less than what I paid for, they didn’t amount to much.
I thought the word “chicken” was a neutral term. It was not like I said “Henshit” or “Roostershit”… If I offended any chickens out there, please accept my deepest and most humble apologies…

Dale :p
