Myself, my wife, and several friends caught Willie Nelson last night at the Ridglea Theater here in town. Great performance. I saw Willie Nelson once before probably 25 years ago. I had never been to this venue in it's current state, it's an old movie theater, somewhat art deco built in 1948. The current owners have moved all but 200 of the theater seats out, closed off the balcony which now is the upstairs "club". So it's general admission and they sold out 1,000 tickets. We managed to get very close center, an hour of waiting for the doors to open, then a hour and a-half waiting inside for the show to start. This venue normally has metal type local bands and all ages type shows, this was thier first major touring show (that I know of anyway). The Keb Mo tour with Kaki King is going to be here also.

Willie Nelson played for 2+ hours, barely taking a breather between songs, everybody had a great time. I was able to closely watch his guitar work. Fantastic. They annouced his fourth of July picnic will be in Ft. Worth this year!!

Bad thing was, our car was broken into and my wife's purse was stolen, she had left it under the passenger seat....
Got home and made a police report, reported our credit card stolen and went to bed. Phone rang about 20 minutes later - the security staff of the Ridglea found her purse with driver's license, ATM card, checkbook all intact. Only the credit card missing, there was no cash as she had put that in her pocket, and we had already reported the credit card. The owner herself called us to let us know - guess I'll drop off a demo CD when I go to pick it up from them!!

Is it just me, or have Willie's ears gotten really huge in the last few years?

I recently heard a re-broadcast of Willie on Howard Stern where Willie was recounting a story where one of his wives showed up at his hotel room to "surprise" him on Tour.

While Willie is pulling his pants on and the girl that was in the bed with him was running naked down the hall, Willie looks at his wife and says:

"Now, what're you gonna believe . . . what'chu just saw, or what I'm about to tell you?" :D

Let's not forget the time that Willie came home drunk once too many times, and while he was passed out on the bed, his wife sewed him up in the sheets and then proceeded to beat the hell out of him with a broom.

Back in the 80's, I was recording a project on friend of Willie's at his country club/recording studio/golf course/condos down in Pedernales (pronounced Purdnallis, LOL!!). Willie's daughter set me up to stay at condo #1, which was Willie's place where he crashed when he didn't want to go home.

I couldn't help but notice that the rear sliding back door was shattered and taped up. Lana, Willie's daughter, assured me the door would be replaced the next day.

Well....I had to ask what happened, right? Lana laughed and said, "Connie (then wife)snuck up on Daddy and Dyan Cannon getting it on and went after them both with a baseball bat!" Apparently the door was the big loser.

Tough life!!

Willie and Dyan Cannon. Now there's a visual I didn't need.

In college, I spent a lot of time on the Pedernales, floating on a raft, drinking beer.

OK, it's better not to be associated with a bunch of loose Cannons. Especially on a raft.

Willie looks old because he is old and the whisky river doesn't hurt either.

Willie's in his early 70's, but he's looked the same for the last 20 years.
