Had a heck of a time finding medium gauge strings for my Pacemaker. I tried D'Addario lights (10-47 gauge), and they sounded too "strummy" or shallow. I decided to try some Martin Marquise (spelling?)lights, which at 12-54 gauge, are closer to a medium. I think I've found a happy medium. The low end response and overall volume is notedly improved over the D'Addario lights. They are a little "stiffer" to play, but not as much as a true medium set would be I suspect (never tried mediums on a 12 before). Seems Martin strings overall run a little heavier.
Since I'm talking about Martin strings, I have to say the Martin SP's (phos.bronze) absolutely bring my Balladeer to life!!! I find the tone much more pleasing than the Elixers I had on her before...although, I love the Elixers on my Legend, which has more than enough deep response.

Back to strings....I have found Martin SPs to be absolutely wonderful. I have a set of .010" Phosphor Bronze for the first string change on my new 1777, although the D'Addario EXP .012s sound SOOOO good that I may go get another set to replace them with.

Yes you are right. I have to admit, I played a low end Celebrity my brother in law had back in the late 70's early 80's, and wrote off Ovations as tinny sounding, with no depth or volume. Well, it may has taken me 20 years, and a chance encounter with a pawnshop Legend to learn how wrong I was!
Hey,if I can ever figure out how to get my $20.00 digital camera to download pics like it's supposed to, I will be updating my gallery very soon.
