The guy playing the grand piano is award-winning composer/arranger Michael Kamen, who died a couple years ago. The guy playing the electric piano is recently-deceased Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright. I highly recommend the DVD . . .

He conducted the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra (as well as wrote the score) during Metallica's "S + M" concert. He did a brilliant job and really came across as very likable in the documentary. Even if you're not a Metallica fan, it's a very interesting DVD.

Near the end of the show, David Bowie joins Gilmour for "Arnold Layne" and "Comfortably Numb". This DVD is a must for any Gilmour/Pink Floyd fan.

"David Gilmour Live" is the oldest, has a LOT of acoustic stuff on it, and features some interesting instrumentation. "Remember That Night" is from his "On an Island" Tour, features Crosby&Nash, and has a lot of "behind the scenes" footage. The tour culminated at an outdoor concert at the Gdansk shipyards in Poland with a full orchestra. "Live from Gdansk" is basically that entire show mentioned above. The first one is my fave . . .

Check out "An American Symphony" ... it's the music to the film Mr. Holland's Opus. Kamen was f@ckin' brilliant! There's an available recording of the five movement symphony by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Leonard Slatkin with soloists, including violinist Leila Josefowicz. I only wished I know what label it's in though ...

When Roger Waters played in Brisbane, she came up here and had dinner with us on our back deck. She's the mother of a good friend of mine. I got free front row tickets.
