Location: Florida | New Adamas SMT playing fine, sounding better.... But, I've got a weird tuning thing going on.
Whats happening is my low E, A and D are going sharp overnite. Usually strings go sharp when - the neck becomes straigher, or the head tilts backward, or the top somehow changes against the forces of the strings. Or...??? (help me on this one)
The perplexing thing is - the G goes sharp just a little about every two or three days, and the B and high E are stable.
I DID let some relief out of the neck, but going back and remeasuring, its right where it was to within the ability of my measurment skills with wire gauges. Action has not changed. So I'm stuck with "weird" for now.
FWIW, I'm using EXPer...gauge is 10-47. The neck barely moved with the lighter strings, hence some relief was taken out with the Kaman bar after two days of "settle".
Any ideas? |

| Got a weird answer.......... I used to keep a rag in my case and place it under then head case was tight and I liked having the extra cusion on the tuners.....Rag would bump the tuners some up some down depending on what way they were leaning when I closed the case at night.... Figured this was my problem? ....I doubt it is this simple but hey sometimes it's as simple as letting the air out of the tires to get the truck out? Randy |

Location: Florida | hmm temperture....it has gotten warmer! In fact... it was quite cool (for Florida) last week. This week much warmer.
Got me thinkin. When its cool I just run no AC, windows closed and we are fine unless it gets down to about 40 for over a day. It hasn't done that, but when its 50 ouside its maybe 65 inside. When the AC kicks in, its because we're warmner than 78 inside.
Hmm.... could this be it? |

| It's Warm somewhere? ...... CharlieB You mean you don't put that Adamas in it's case each night!....... Thought that was a given? Perhaps I am a coward but I de-tune the E string every night to relieve a little tension on the guitar? I do a quick tuning before I play every time anyway? |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Charlie, I vote with Paul M., temperature....I have the same problem with my guitars I keep in their cases in our family room, they go sharp when it gets warmer.

Location: On the beach in Southwest Florida | You might want to try keeping the temperature fixed to see if this is the reason. Both Temp & humidity would have an effect. |

Location: Florida | Not being able to fix the temp is one of the reasons I went with the Adamas.
I mean we never get too cold inside - about 65ish - and never over 78. |

Location: Florida | I leave the Toiletcaster out. With 4 active cats around the house when I'm not at home, I dont trust things. They've been know to chase a piece of dust, and cause major colateral damage in the process.
Think... one cat on a shelf knocks off a small trinket, that startles the other cat on the back of the chair, he jumps down and the back of the chair hits the end table, the lamp goes over, etc etc.
I'm sure you get the idea. |

I have a cat also.... can't imagine my 2001 becoming a "scratching post"!!!
Plus, because I live in a Semi-arid area, I can control the humidity in the cases....
tuning changes... yep, temperature... I tune when I take the guitar out of the case and then again after about 30-45 minutes when it warms up and goes out of tune...

Location: NJ | I definitely think it's a temperature thing.
Like Moody, I have all of my guitars "out" on stands/wall brackets. I live (for now) in a garden apartment with forced hot-air heat that tends to create wide/frequent temperature swings.
I also play with light gauge strings (which I guess makes me a "fag" in Templeman's eyes). I use a room humidifier to keep the moisture level constant, but the temperature (especially this time of year) has a tendancy to fluctuate. It's very seldom that I will pick up a guitar that's been idle for a day or two and NOT have to "tweak" a string (or two) slightly to get things back up to snuff. The only one that I really CAN'T say that about is the Adamas. That thing can sit idle for week or two and STILL be spot-on when I pick it up again. I guess the stability of that carbon top is a huge factor in that.
Come April 1st, Jeanette and I will be moving into a new townhouse, and my Music Room (hooray!!) will be a little more "stable" climatically. |

| Kids and their friends & Dogs force me to keep mine in a case for now. Going to use wall hangers soon though Can't keep these Adamas Guitars covered all the time they are just to damned good lookin! Like me! |

| I build Exhibit cases for some great old museum artifacts. When the Music room is done I will try and post a shot or two I have some nice idaes for these they will go into a sunken case in the wall with black felt or velvet lining the inside. Door will be made from Walnut like the Guitar add the corners I will carve like the Head. 1/4" plexi and some pin lights to show off what's inside! I can lock it too! Perhaps The Factory showroom has cases like this? IF not they should! There are some real treasures like the old Slot Heads etc. and some of the guitars I have seen in your galleries! Yes I admit it! There are other Ovations besides the Adamas that are works of Art! By the way If I did'nt Say this aready; NICE WEBSITE GUY'S ! |

Location: Las Cruces, NM | Definately temperature, when I was playing in a band with my son we always made it a point to arrive on the job at least a half hour before show time so we could allow our instruments to adjust to the temperature of the venue. We would then tune and usually the tuning would hold up for a set or two before all the applause and crowds would raise the room temp and require another tune up.
