Nice suggestions for tuning the 12 string! I thught I was pretty smart? You bunch have got some knowlededge. I liked the answer to "take the other six strings off and tune it normal"! Just about spit my coffee on the keys! OK Question; I have tried a few Acoustic basses now Wow there is a huge huge difference in sounds between some of these? difficult to decide What I am wondering is did any company ever make SMOOTH Acoustic Bass Strings? I understand the tonal qualities of the Bronze wire wraps but I figure someone must have tried to make something for a Acoustic that gives you the feel of it's Electric counterpart?

Some of the companies that built acoustic basses use nylon tape wound strings.
I believe that Rotosound, Fender & Carvin (maybe Thomas-Infeld?) make them.
D'addario makes some half-round strings. They sound O.K. to me, but take some getting used to.
Sound-wise the tapewound give a sound that's fairly mellow, half-rounds are brighter than flatwounds and a have lot less string noise than regular round-wound.
