I sent my son away to college with a calculator and a digital camera. Not sure how much use the calculator is getting, but he visits some of the alternative concert spots around the village and elsewhere in the city and gets some pretty good pictures.

Check out the 2nd and 4th photos. "Godspeed You Black Emperor" (a band that I also really like, so much for a generation gap). The guy plays slide using a metal file.

What the hell does this have to do with Ovation? Well, having to put a kid through college is the reason I can't invest in more guitars!

You can't invest MORE in guitars??? I knew I should have become an engineer instead of a small time thug.

Unfortunately, sometimes we not only send them off to college, but also have to continue to invest in guitars ... for them. And of course, ignoring the sage advice we give them, they hear only those words of rationalization that spew forth from us as we feed our perpetual gas. So they NEED a semi-hollow, they NEED a Jumbo, they NEED one with humbuckers, they NEED one with filtertrons, they NEED ...

And I was hoping they'd run away and hide under a rock when they realize that the old man's words are coming out of their own mouths ...

This is the engineering math wrt guitar collecting: For every one that comes in the door, an equal and opposite one must go out the door. Actually the last few guitars I have obtained resulted in multiple guitars each being sold. So to the untrained eye (my wife), I am making "progress" in my addiction. Dave

PS. Fortunatly my son is pretty frugal about guitars. He has a Jap Telecaster and a Baby Taylor. Sadly, his playing puts my own to absolute shame.

It wasn't very large
There was just enough room to cram the drums
In the corner over by the Dodge
It was a fifty-four
With a mashed up door
And a cheesy little amp
With a sign on the front said "Fender Champ"
And a second hand guitar
It was a Stratocaster with a whammy bar

We used to jam in Joe's Garage.....

Those are some excellent photos, Dave! Big Wilco fans here in our household! My oldest is in 7th grade, we had a good talk the other day about learning guitar or bass, and how practice can be b-o-r-i-n-g, and how the folks would support and encourage someone so inclined, so long as they keep with it!!!

My 10 year old has been taking lessons for two months and dad just bought him a Fender Squire Strat. He loves playing his own guitar and dad loves having his Viper Deluxe back.
