| Hi
I have an Adamas 6 strings Optima pre.
A couple of weeks ago it started making strange and erratic static noises.
The noise sometimes is triggered by touching the strings or even the guitar body and sometimes is triggered tilting the guitar.
I’ve checked everything, cables, battery, connectors, contacts, and the noise is still being there.
I’d like to know if anyone here got the same problem before.
Also would be great to have the Optima schematic and to know how to detach it from the guitar body, I couldn’t find the trick.

Location: NJ | lift up each corner of the stick on overlay and it will reveal 4 phillips head screws.
first is check the battery.
second make sure all the connections are connected inside the guitar
third check the out put jack.

What about the Optima schematic, do you know if it’s available in a service manual or something like that? Or I’m forced to get it just looking at the PCB.

Location: Florida | You wont need a schematic to figure out that noise.
Something is either dirty or loose.
FWIW, I often see the same issue on amps - and a lot of the time it turns out to be just the input jack going nuts.
There's some stuff called ProGold which is by far the best contact cleaner out there. A little on a Qtip to wipe the jacks connection, then coat the plug (light coat). Work the plug a few times and yer done.
Ditto pots, sliders, other plugs, switches.
Low batteries can sound like a sort of "bleating" sound on opamp audio circuitry (which Ovation surely must use). |

| Well, after checking everything you mentioned before, the noise is still there.
It’s a typical static discharge noise like a spark in the amp input. I’m suspecting probably on a faulty decoupling capacitor or something like that. For that matter I’d like to have the schematic, I think is a good policy to make them public, I do not like hidden or secret things like them seems to be…
I’ve sent an e-mail to customer support asking for them, let see what happen
BTW where do you usually buy the ProGold?

If its a wheezy hissy farty sound, it could be a bad opamp chip. Without seeing things, I'd imagine they used a TL072, or perhaps an TL074 (dual vs quad).
I wouldn't think a decoupling cap - as the voltages used are very low, and a cap ought not be having problems unless they somehow severely undersized it.
One other thing - is the usual practice of making a split power supply from a 9v battery. You might see a resistor bad in that part. I cant think of a place for discrete diodes there, but if they're present, it would be another place to look for noise. |

| The noise is not a hiss; it’s like a spark.
It’s like something going to saturation (crash!… crash!..) but sometimes w/o touching anything!!
When I mentioned a cap, I meant a probably degraded electrolytic or something like that.
Your point with the resistor in the splited power supply is good.
And diodes, yes, another good suggestion, I’ve found two just in the small PCB holding the jacks (XLR & ¼”).
For all of this "I’m begin Kaman Music" to provide the OPTIMA schematic…
Let see what they do.
