Just got in my Schaller Pearloid Tuner Knobs for my O' Collector's 2000. So I'm taking an unofficial poll: Which ones do you like best? I know all that matters is what I think... and quite frankly, although I liked all the "gold" look on the guitar before, I'm liking the look of the pearl. I also like how it feels when I tune the strings.

I did have one issue: The screws that came with the knobs (from Stewart-MacDonald) were about an eighth of an inch too short, so I had to use my originals.

I'm open for comments.

Both. Switch them every 6 months or when you get fed up with the look and want a change. (When you're at the factory snag some screws of the right length)

Wow! Even the pictures from Texas are bigger!

Your honor, I like the Pearloids. When I swapped mine out I used the "O" screws too. I think the pearl looks better, feels better and doesn't give me fingerprint issues.

Perloids for me, but the gold look great when the guitar is new.

They also make ebony - which is what I'd like to put on my SMT. Waiting to hear back if this thing has Schallers or Pings, or if the buttons are interchangable

I have an '02 CL 12 string with gold Pings and pearloid buttons. The ebony Schaller buttons work. I have to say I'm really disappointed that it came with Pings. Kim Keller says that all O's and A's come with Pings now. He says no one has ever had a problem with Pings, but...Schallers are the ultimate and I see Pings as just a way to keep costs down.

Well, I have to admit the gold are great new, but I was noticing that the gold ones on my Adamas 1881-nb2 are starting to get a bit scratched up. The perloid do look nice. But I think the black would look really cool. Anyone know where to find them? Thanks. Go with the perloid for daily use, put the gold on for show.

I am not a fan of the pearloid buttons. I really like gold keys, and I find that the gold really adds class to Ovation acoustics. My Custom Legend has the older Schaller keys with the pearloid buttons. I don't really care for the pearloid, but that is what Custom Legends have always had.

FWIW the only drawback to pearloid buttons are.....If you post a picture of the peghead you can't show subliminal messages or naked womens in the reflection of the buttons. (bummer)

alpep & miles: I thought the pictures were smaller. Don't know how to make 'em smaller...

Did anybody else have problems with the screws being the wrong size?

AND... don't all pre-2001 O's have Schallers?

Sorry, alpep & miles. IF ya can email me on how to make the pics smaller, I won't do that any more...

one way to tell if your guitar has Schaller or Ping tuners is to look at the screw that is holding the button on. If it is a phillips style head than it is a Ping tuner, if it is a regular slot it is a Schaller. Can you get me a picture of the back of your tuning keys? It is easy to tell the difference.

It must be a Ping tuner because it's a Phillips screw. Here's the back, and I hope the picture comes out small this time.

I'm laughing to hard to scold anyone. I use photoshop and can just edit the size of a picture. I don't know what you use to edit photos, so I can't really help. Whatever it is, I would guess it has a "resize" feature someplace.

miles: I used Photoshop and resized to 3" wide. I really thought the photo was gonna be smaller. Be patient with me! :D

Yep, those are Ping tunners. If you remember when you first talked about putting pearloid buttons on your guitar, I said find out if they are Schaller or Ping first.

The new 30th annivesary Custom Legend has Ping tuners with pearloid buttons. You may want to contact Kim Keller at Ovation service. I am sure he can get the pearloid buttons for your Ping tuners.

Your Honor Sir,

I like the Gold also  .... but I have one question:

Does "Pearloid" come from "Oysteroids"? ;)

sorry, someone had to ask that ... I'm surprised someone didn't ask it sooner!
