| My wife bought one of these guitars way back in the day. I am trying to figure out how to set a proper price. She's played it a lot although hasn't abused it. It's in good condition, some scratches and what not, but plays well.
I think I may have to replace the electronics...the last time we tried to plug into the sound board, it didn't work. I need to replace the batteries and see if it's a simple matter of replacing the battery.
I am trying to figure out how much this guitar is worth. The Glen Campbell model that Ovation put out was selling for $1700+. Just not sure if the original has appreciated in value or not. Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated. Thanks. |

Location: SoCal | I don't think the Glen Campbell model was made in 1987. It was discontinued around 1983. Post a picture of it so we can see and identify it. |

Location: Utah | eBay history can give you some idea of the going price. Right now is a tough time to be selling used guitars.
Definitely change the battery before panicking over the electronics. |

| My wife LOVES her Ovation.
I looked at it and the model number is 1621, and she really can't remember when she got the guitar. She says she bought it when she was in college and she was in college from 1980 to 1986.
There are a couple of tiny blemishes but otherwise in pretty clean condition. |

Location: SoCal | 1621 is the acoustic electric Artist. Shallow bowl, VT-8 bracing. Nice guitar. Does it have a volume knob only or stacked volume/tone knobs? The guitar's serial number should be on a small tag inside the guitar, on the bowl, by the neck block. That will allow you to determine, approximately, when the guitar was built. |

| The Model 1621 was made from 1971 and discontinued in 1983. The original price of a 1621 in 1983 was $715. I recall her saying it cost over $700 when first bought so it must be around 1983.
The serial number is 290644 and it was made in Conneticutt. There don't seem to be any additional information anywhere else on the guitar. |

| Okay, Ovation's website has the Captain Cosmic Decoder ring for their serial numbers. This model was built in late 1982. |

I'm not sure how you got "Glen Campbell" on this though. Does it have Glenn Campbell's signature engraved on the truss rod cover?
It's DEFINITELY not the model you saw for $1800. That's a 1627, is a newer reissue, and has more bling |

| My wife and I have been married for 15 years, we've known each other for 20 years, and she's had her guitar for 25 years. Ever since I've kwon her, she's said that she had the Glen Campbell Ovation, but I never bothered to look at the model number.
Maybe she was trying to impressm e... :) Nah, I think she just didn't know what she bought.
I saw someone trying to sell a 1971 Ovation for $600...not sure if he got close to that tho. |
