This is not a good idea, unless you use very light strings, or silk & steel strings.

Bad Bad idea. To sound good - a nylon strin guitar has a thinner top with lighter bracing. Put steels on it and its not gonna be pretty.

Usually they have lighter bracing but I don't think that carries over to the celebicys. Electric strings should be fine, a 10 set. or an extra lite acoustic set, also 10 to 46 there abouts. They pull about 120-130 pounds pressure and nylons pull around the same. The 1818 set and J16 pull around 155 I think, if memory serves me well.

Keep the nylon strings and enjoy their unique sound, buy a steel string and enjoy it's unique sound. Everybody should have at least two guitars. :D

See, this way you can play both kinds of music - Country and Western! And Nils is correct in that you should have at least two guitars. Of course then you'll want a 12 string. Then you'll dabble in electric solid bodies and then all the gizmo's that go with them.

Then you have to find the perfect unplugged acoustic. It never ends!

Going back to cwk2's post.....that is MAJOR interesting that the Celebrities have heavier bracing than the U.S.-made guitars(my understanding of his post)....could we have just found one of the major reasons that the U.S.-made guitars sound better?????

1976 Applause AA14-4 6-String
1981 Ovation 1118-1 Glen Campbell 12-string
2001 Adamas 1598-MERB Melissa Etheridge 12-String

Roger, you keep that kind of work up and you'll be workin for Moody PI. I think the Celebicy models are all the same braces (lots of them) BUT it's been a long time since I signed off on the blueprints. These come from a different factory. Maybe we could find out??? Maybe one on the Admin guys coulod check with any unnamed source for verification??? In any case I'd bet that the exlite sets would work just fine, the Adamas 1717 set.

Nylon on the top and steel on the bottom..... Interesting!
and a paracho from mexico that someone left in my garage

My wife and I watched "Once Upon A Time In Mexico", (I was the one who went to the Blockbuster). It's got some interesting stuff with guitars and guitar cases going on. One fantastic looking guitar that Antonio Banderas' character plays for El Presidente.
Didn't have enough of Selma Hayak in it though...

CWK2...

Your post about the tension of the nylon stings didn't fit my fingers memory. Finally was able to pin it down:

From the D'Addario website - the tension on the nylon sets are all about 88 to 92 lbs.

The LIGHTEST steel string (EXP10) is 135lbs. Most of the 10-47 sets are about that, the 11-5x sets are about 155-160lbs, and the 12's are about 180-190 lbs

So it seems that steel strings are anyplace to half again as much... all the way to double as much tension as the nylon strings.

As to whether the guitar can take it...thats arguable, but I'd err on the safe side and not go steel on a nylon designed box.
