Location: New South Wales, Australia | Played with my band at my sister-in-law's 40th last night and had a great night. The gig was at an outside area of a local club and it was a perfect place for it. Nice sunny afternoon and evening, plenty of room for the kids to run around, lots of food.....and free beer for the band :cool:
We finished our first set at about 7.45 and, whilst taking full advantage of the aforementioned free beer, were politely informed by management that the police had been called by someone living near the club, complaining about the noise.
Apparently the coppers were slightly embarrassed to be called out at that early time of the evening but said they had to respond to the call.
It was like waving a red rag at a bull :D We turned everything up to 11 after that. I don't mind quietening down when it gets late in respect to nearby residents..but is 7.45 (in the summertime) to early to be calling the law? The sun hadn't even gone down!!! |

Location: Round Rock, TX | As far as I'm concerned you had a legitimate harassment beef with whoever called the cops. Anyone who bought a house near a club should know better - and at least has only themselves to blame.

Location: New South Wales, Australia | I must say, we were extremely proud of ourselves. It's the first time the cops have been called to any of our gigs (maybe we haven't been trying hard enough)
They only spoke with staff but I would've loved to have had a chat with them and maybe taken a couple of photos with them in front of our stage setup |

| Turn the speakers right at em. I think 11:00 is a fair time on a work night. Friday's and Saturday's are later.
Funny thing is if whomever called would lighten up and go have a beer they'd a had a good time. |

The first metal band I was in, way back in the early 80's was called Black Angel.
I don't know if we ever made it through an entire gig aside from battle of the bands (Logan High School in Union City, we took 2nd place, it was rigged ;) ) without being unplugged at some point.
3 in particular were memorable...
1. The biker block party: Was all Angels, and it was some big shot in the club who had a birthday. They had a big huge block party and even got the San Leandro Police to allow them to block the streets. we got to the 4th song when the cops showed (Marshall JCM 800s turned to 11!) The last song we were playing was called "Dungeons of Death", a very not-so-nice song and Chris our singer walked off the stage at the last note, but but not before he yelled F* YOU into the PA with his foot on eternal repeat on the Boss digital delay. It went on and on for several minutes before they figured out how to stop it.
2. The Zucchini Festival in Hayward, CA: Was a big city park. We told them we were a new wave band so we could get the gig. Apparently, we drowned out the other band on the other side of the park (had to be 1/4 mile away). They unplugged us. We were not invited to subsequent Festivals. I think they still do them today, but back then it was like the 2nd annual one or something.
3. Saving the best for last, the horse burger story: We had been renting a barn that had been converted into a practice pad/studio, on Mission Blvd just north of Niles Canyon. There were still rural areas there back then. We actually shared space with another group, can't remember their names, but Kevin Carlson from Aldo Nova was in the band and I always sneaked and used his Dean Markley Stack. Anyhow, we decided to throw a party/show one night. The place was pretty cool and had risers going up sort of like bleachers for the crowd, so it was just like doing a show in a club. Someone who showed up didn't shut the gate out front and one of the horses wandered out on to Mission Blvd and was slaughtered by a semi. Gig cut short. No more practice space. The band dispersed soon after.

This place we played is also right next to the local airport so I'm sure the local residents have plenty of things to complain about.
During our second set we were buzzed by a chopper which was waiting to land I presume, and for a moment I thought the noise was coming from the PA. A well-lubricated reveller yelled out..."Holy shit..they've called in the air force!!" |
