Location: Back in the Valley of the Sun Mesa Az. | I've found my Kyser 12 capo a little weak in capoing on the first and second frets. I thought I would try the Bird of Paradise I heard so much about. I had to reaslly crank her down hard to get a clear tone..... After about three weeks of use, I found it wasn't able to keep pressure. I noted that the plastic ridges that hold the capo in place were worn smooth, AND the main "plastic" hinge that holds the two pieces together was totally worn down to a nub, holding nothing in place.
Can't find a Shubb in town, as I hear they are the way to go. My old Dunlop strap capo works the best, but I worry about it actually constricting too tight (as one notch less, is waay too weak).
I know my Pacemaker can handle the stress of concert pitch, but my voice can't! I tune everytrhing down a step... actually I tune it off key as well, so when I sing off-key, everything blends in nicely!

Location: Yucaipa, California | I had a Kyser 12 and found it not only too flimsy, but too short for the width of my Balladeer neck... I switched to the Shubb 12 and it is perfect. I now have 2-six string shubbs, 1-12 string and 1-(forgive me) banjo shubb... I use the Kysers for hanging up the laundry!
Check with Al.... they are worth it!

Are you refering to my Pacemaker? I don't have it in front of me (it's at home, and I'm at work, I can't decide where I want it more, and the commute was a little difficult keeping it strapped to me the first week I owned it, so I've been weaned for 8 hour periods!) but I don't think it's a 1115. It is natural in tone. You can see a pic. of it in Trboy's gallery. I'm working on getting an updated gallery that will show it as well.

Besides, the local music store owner wouldn't help me out with the birdie... along with some problems with the guitars I bought for my students (high quality Johnson's...whatcha expect right?!). He kinda has this town over a barrel for music supplies.

Location: Warren,Pa. | I switched from a Keyser to a Schubb for my CL 12 string some time ago...needed a stronger clamp. I do have a Q though: How do you guys get any capo to hold down the high octave strings on the bass side of the neck? I thought of cutting notches in the plastis where the fatter bass strings hit. Right now those little strings next to those fat strings just kind of get muted a little. And what about Gordon Lightfoot anyway?????????? John. |
