Hi to you all. Many thanks for allowing me into your fine forum it is a wealth of information.

I have just bought my first Ovation guitar which is a blonde 1986-6 Collectors Series plus light blue-lined case both in excellent condition.

My previous guitars were:

Fender Jaguar: Pre CBS bought s/hand in 1966.
Fender Telecaster De-luxe: New in 1974.
Fender Telecaster Standard: Totally refubishd by John Birch Guitars.
Fender Strat USA Standard: Bought new in 1986 and still owned.

All have been gigged furiously over the years but I am now taking a career break at age 63.

I would be gratefull if any forum members could share their knowledge or experiences on this model.

Regards,

dave3dg

Welcome! Since your case is light blue inside, that would indicate your guitar is a super shallow bowl. Here\'s the specs. I've never owned one, (OK, everyone else insert comment here) but it should be a very nice guitar.

Now you just gotta get the 12-string to go with it.

[Unless you got the 12... either way, you gotta get the other one!]

Welcome, dave3dg! I AM surprised Trader Jim hasn't owned one of these yet. :D

I'm sure someone who has owned one will show up soon and give you their impressions.

Welcome dave3dg!

Here is the 1986 Collector's 12 string 2986-6p I bought last year and sold early this year (TJ, sound framilar?)...

86 Collector\'s 12 string

It was a great guitar and absolutely mint! I have the only other Ovation Collector 12 string model (85 C) for sale now...
These are great guitars: I really like the inlays on the 86 models...

Welcome Dave.

We have a sister site where it is much easier to upload pic's from your local computer... music and video's too.
Might want to have a look around:

Resistance is futile... you will be assimilated.

Don't let it go to your head. Our standards for membership aren't that high. Why, we've even accepted members who don't even OWN an Ovation...

There's a few of us who really prefer the shallow and super shallow bowls. Plugged in, they provide about 95% of the tone of their fat siblings, but IMHO, are much more comfortable to handle. Welcome to the OFC, Dave.

Yes I think I have more chance of marrying into Royalty than finding the 12 version with only 300+ made. There can't be that many left even though MusicMishka flogged a nice one earlier on this year. I do think there will be more O's coming as I like to see them and it winds the missus up. :D

Thanks to Johnmark Stone for the sister site link and to all for the warm welcome.

You might be surprised, Dave. This is the place to ask around. People have been selling some amazing guitars at great prices.

But to me, "now go get the matching 12" sounds more like a collector mentality. If this is your first Ovation, you might wanna try some other flavors next, other soundhole options, depths...

I suspect that being a Telecaster guy, you'd love a vintage Viper.

You could be well correct there C_L but having been a dedicated Fender "solid electric" user over the years I don't find change that easy. The vibes of a good Tele/Strat well amplified really take some beating. I have tried the Gibbies and RickenB's and a Gretch or two and have allways gone back to Fender.

As for the Viper, well if I could try one to satisfy my curiosity then I could well look at one. Anyone got one to lend me please?
Just remember Captain _Lovehandles: You can make a Strat growl like a Gibbie but you can't make a Gibbie as clean as a Strat.
Cheers Alex to you.
