I have a Tornado, serial no. A 020. Used to be a tremolo model but I've never had the whammy arm. And, when I took it to the "spa" this summer, the tailpiece broke, so the guy replaced it with a Bigsby. (Still no arm, though)

I've had this thing for 18 years, Bought it and a Peavey Studio Pro amp for a total of $225. Great warm sound, but it sounds great with some edge, too.

Anybody seen a lower serial. The guys at Ovation suggested I ask here.

The answer is yes, there are earlier serial numbers than the A-xxx series. The 3 and 4 digit serial numbers pre-dated the A-xxx series serials. I think a number of members here (self included) have some of these older ones. Your Tornado is a nice guitar. Enjoy it. Dave

Thanks, Paul, but it's not stock anymore. I had the repair guy put on new tuning machines. He had to fill some holes but the thing stays in tune now.

How many of these did Ovation make?

They made them for 4-5 years. Wild ass guess on my part, but I'd say all Storms combined (Tornado, Eclipse, Thead, Hurricane, Typhoon) maybe 2500 ??? W-2, am I even close ??? Dave

Here's an example of a Storm with an older serial number than A-###. Dave

Just watched the Carpenters Special on PBS again tonight, and the Ovation I got a fleeting look at during their early 70's was a 6 string hollow body, had to be part of the Storm series.
