Location: Salisbury, CT | Whew, still recovering from an incredible experience at the Ovation Fan Club day in New Hartford. I can't say Thank You enought to everyone involved.
Anyway, I was reading the (Round)back to the Future/The Ovation LX Upgrade brochure, in case there was a pop quiz, and I noticed that the LX has "Straplok strap buttons."
Hummm, I hadn't heard of them being on Ovation guitars before but I had run across them when I was trying to get a strap for Scot's '03 Collector. The initial strap I bought him had leather ends and was a pain to fit over the buttons on his guitar whenever it went into the case, which was after every use.
(Now we have two humidifiers running, since we heat our house with wood, and he leaves his two guitars on stands ready at all times. Much better.)
So I bought a Planet Waves strap with plastic ends that clip onto the buttons and get locked in place with the rotation os a wheel deal. Not too bad but a bit clunky. His old traditional strap was put on his Trekker which doesn't require strap removal to go into the gig bag case.
I then looked up Straplok online and notice that the buttons on his '03 look just like Straplok buttons. Hummm... Questions I wish had thought of yesterday when there were experts next to experts next to experts.
So, is it possible that they are Straplok buttons and is it a good system to use if they are? Do people, i.e. Ovation Fans, think they are cool or not?
Assuming they are worth using where would one get the "male" ends which attach to the strap ends? Ovation Customer Service? It would be nice as John is closer to me than our music store two towns further east on Route 44.

Location: On the beach in Southwest Florida | The current Ovations have Dunlop strap locks installed. They don't sell just the part for the strap. You have to buy the entire mechanism. That of course leaves you the female part that you can install on another guitar. The one drawback is that it sometimes takes some work to keep them from rattling. (Like putting something in addition to the strap...I use a piece of leather...into the mix to stop rattles.) |

I might have a pair of the male ends that go on the strap. If I do, e-mail me an address and I'll "pop 'em in the Post" (DOH!!! . . . . "bloody Brits" . . . :-)
Anyway, lemme check and if I have them, they're yours (rather Scot's :-)

btw: I'd also like to commend Scot on his posting in the For Sale about a "lead" on a local LX for sale. Here's someone who was at the Factory and the NEXT DAY he's posting detailed info on an available guitar!!!!
Scot, your a great kid and you've got a great family! Show me how those StrapLocks work out for you on next year's Tour . . . :cool:

Location: Madison, Wisconsin | I'm kind of a klutz when it comes to holding things that cost more than $25. I've made it a policy around my house that straps must be attached when playing guitars. I find it especially important with the round backs since they have a tendency to slip a bit. The Strap-Loks make it pretty easy to swithch from one guitar to another. I was actually suprised to see how many people didn't have straps at the jams. |

Thanks for the offer on the Straploks but I ordered two sets in gold, to match Scot's 2003 Collector gold buttons, from 8th Street. They had the cheapest price and were closest.
I appreciate your kind words about Scot. Thanks. I should have grabbed his New Hartford Ovation rather than his Trekker but at least we got a guitar in the picture.
After all the enthusiasm from the Tour, especially for the LX, I am tempted to learn to play and I only play the iPod. Maybe an ole dog can learn new tricks.

The strap lock system is the best or so some brilliant person thought 10 years ago when everything switched to it.
Did they give you the award for the shortest drive to attend the Tour? Sounds like it was well worth it. |

I wanted to thank you and Gail for the great directions to get home. We arrived home safe at about 10:30 pm. Mike, Greg and Chris all had a great time playing with Scott.
I had the same concern about attaching the guitar strap. I just bought a new Jodi Head strap and it is not easy to attach and detach from the guitar. I had concerns about changing the strap buttons on the guitar because I wanted to leave the guitar in original condtion. I will look into the straplok system and see if it will work for me.
Again many thanks. Pearl,my self,Mike Greg, and Chris all enjoyed the time we spent with you during the tour.
