Location: SE Michigan | I bought an Adamas CVT off of Ebay. It is supposed to be “new-old-stock”. The seller is an Ovation dealer and said it comes with a full warranty. The serial number is 19373 so I guess that puts it around a 2002-2003 model. It has the older Optima preamp.
My question is how do I register it with Ovation? Martin guitars have a registration form that you send in. The dealer tells me all I need is my purchase receipt. The purchase receipt doesn’t specify new or used, how would Ovation know? What if it’s ten years from now and the dealer is long gone?
I have a couple more questions; does Ovation make a compensated saddle? This model Adamas has the narrower saddle with the steel rail clipped over the bottom. Seems like a compensated saddle would help the intonation a bit.
I was also was wondering what kind of strings suit the Adamas models best. I put a set of Elixir Nanowebs on it and it seems a bit jangly, especially in the middle. What kind of strings would mellow things out a bit?
All in all I am very happy with it, got a great price and it is in new condition. It is clear and crisp and has tons of sustain. Played next to my old Legend it is actually very similar, classic Ovation tone but more defined. I think we are going to be good friends.
Thanks for all of your inputs on this board |

Location: SoCal | Regarding the warranty question, email Ovation customer service and ask them what documentation is needed. Usually there is a warranty card that comes with the new guitar that you would send in. A letter from the store might suffice, but contact Ovation directly. They'll let you know. All of us here would just be guessing as to the right answer.
As to strings, there have been a ton of discussions on this board. Search thru the archives and you will get a lot of different opinions and the reasons for those opinions. There is no right or wrong answer as to what works best. |
