I really like the wood overlay on the headstocks of older Ovations, but the black does look good on my Legend LX. Does anyone know why Ovation went to a black headstock look? Was it to cut cost on using wood as an overlay? I guess I like them both, but I am leaning toward the wood face on the headstocks.

Personally, I like it and have passed up an older black Custom Legend that just had a black headstock. Looks great on the blue Millennium Adamas and the black 6759.

I like the look, but I guess for the price I paid I might have preferred an ebony overlay.Sometimes the purist in me likes the snob appeal of real wood, and sometimes I feel like a teenage girl shopping for a car..." I like the shiny black one!".

I would guess that it's ebony but I guess that only Ovation could tell us for certain. Especially after going thru the factory tour, I just don't think that the company is going cheap with their material. I also recall seeing necks in the raw form with black wood on the headstock. Check some of the pics that people took.
