I suddenly realized that I had referenced a species that might not be familiar to people outside New Mexico, although Hizzoner, a Texan, probably sees some that have strayed over the border.

A Jackalope is a large jackrabbit crossbreed with antelope horns growing out of it's head. It is a cross between a jackrabbit and an antelope. Who breeds who has never been satisfactorally determined, but they do multiply like rabbits. They, like mules, are sterile so you never see a pregnant jackalope. I will leave it to the more scientific of our members to determine whether an antelope buck rapes a jackrabbit doe, or whether a crazed buck jackrabbit mistakes an antelope doe for a hot, hot little jack floozy and can't stop in time to avoid the dirty deed. Jackrabbits are very fast and can leap quite high. Hot little bunnies are also very accomodating so the antelope buck might have a chance if he is fast and desperate as most are, and wants to avoid a fight to the death with the Master Antelope who owns the antelope babes.

If anyone knows the answer please feel free to jump in here, but I must warn you that doing research on this subject in the field can lead to assaults both large and small during the rutting season which is the same for both species. I speak from experience as I spent the worst night of my life in the Mogollons trying to keep a tree behind me at all times, my god but that tree shook all night as I stupidly had went out in a costume as an antelope Playboy Bunny, double jeopardy!!!

Bailey: It's a wonder you guys in New Mexico have anything left that hasn't blown over to Texas -- with all the tornadoes you've had lately!

Happy Easter Hizzoner and all

Here in Cruces it was a wet Easter but not white, but a lot of the state and mountains had a white Easter (8 in. in Ruidoso). One of My sons was born in April 18 in Ohio some years ago, and we had a big snowstorm the week he was born so NM isn't all that bad.

The tornados that happened are really NM sightings of the Tasmanian Devil, another weird species.

Here in the lovely Upper Left Corner it was 82 degrees, go figure. Sunblock, another pair of sunglasses to lose and who knows what will follow.

I gotta wonder about New Mexico (any relation to New Jersey?). Is it the womanizing aggressive Buck Hares or the Pedophilic Buck Antelope to blame for the Jackalopes?

I guess as long as there are guitar players there to even the balance it must be OK!

Happy Monday
