A friend gave me tickets to the Rod Stewart concert in Oklahoma City, he was unable to go at the last minute so his loss was my gain.

Lots of guitar changes, but unfortunately no O's.

However, the mandolin used for "Maggie" was an Ovation!

BTW a great concert!

One of Shania Twain's fiddlers used an O mandolin in her Newcastle UK concert

I find his latest album to be a poor take on Harry Nilsson's brilliance.

I kinda likened it to "Tony Bennett with a Really Good Blow-Dryer", but I like your analogy better there, Bobbo.

I like the new CD. Those old tunes needed a new voice and take. I think Rod is the only one to pull it off. Just MHO.

Rod Stewart has been around so long that he just decided he'd do what he wanted as far as material.
The Funny thing is His record Company Passed on the Great American Songbook CD- so he let someone else release it and IT Sold Like HOTCAKES!!
His follow up is doing just as well.
The release are something Different and as Miles Stated Rod was just the Guy to pull it off.
he had some great rock N Roll and Pop Tunes in the Past and Like The Energizer Bunny.. he just keeps going and going and going!
BTW Al Was Right,...he still gets the Bimbos.
Wonder if he has enough to share?? mmmm! :D

Rod is an incredible writer, and has a really unique voice. It's amazing how many great songs he's written. He doesn't get a lot of credit for his song writing catalog. I used to be a big fan, til he started with the disco crap. His albums have been hit or miss since then. Every time I've seen him, he's put on a great show.

The new "American Songbook" stuff seems to have drawn a new crowd of fans...a lot of "non Rod" fans seem to like it. To me, it's great background music when friends are over for dinner, but I'm not drawn to put it on otherwise. Certainly don't need to see a live show of it after I saw the live special of it on tv.

What would really interest me would be to see Rod play a show by himself with just an acoustic. He's not a "guitarist" by any means, but he can probably still hack out some of his older tunes on his own. Either that, or just him and Ronnie Wood on acoustics. To me, that would be worth hearing.

ROD STEWART UNPLUGGED? I'm envisioning him letting his hair air dry versus using a blow dryer! :D

I actually have a cassette tape of the unplugged show - bought it at our church's "used book sale" for $1.00.
It's great when Ronnie Wood comes out to play guitar, I'd fast forward it through the "D'ya think I'm sexy"

The stuff with Ron Wood is great...

The "unplugged" was a full band effort, and contained a lot of dismal crap. You can't take Rod seriously with curley hair, anyway.

What I mean is to have just Rod and Ron on acoustic guitars playing old material. To me, that would be among the most interesting thing Rod could do, aside from adding Jeff Beck into the mix (as Rod started out in the Jeff Beck Group) as well.
