That got me to wondering if Ovation ever made any guitars with a Wooden Roundback? If so, what was/is the concensus? |

well unless you cound the vipers which are carved out of mahogany and painted with bowl paint to make them look like "plastic". LOL |

It was a project guitar built by an Ovation Factory Worker on his own time. He's posted here from time to time, but I can't recall his name.
It was up on the eBay block for a speculative auction, but I don't know if it sold or how high the bidding might have gone.

Location: Fayetteville, NC | I remember that post but could'nt remember if the auction on ebay actually sold. The guitar is quite interesting. It would be neat to see if that sorta design would work on a production line.
My guess is it would be expensive to make. |

It would change the tonal character significantly, made of wood. That project, though, is a testimony to creativity, craftsmanship, and engineering!! |

Although it doesn't show in the picture too well,
if I remember correctly, the seams between the wooden "staves" on the back were inlayed with abalone. |

I've seen the wooden roundback mandos/lutes for years and just wondered if Ovation ever tried that method and if so, what was the sound like?? |
