Just out of curiosity, and because I can't seem to find anything definitive...

What is the 'original patented pickup?' Is it different than the one on my Elite? I see in the Owner's Manual PDF at ovationguitars.com that they have two kinds, one with a bunch of 'pyramids' of differing heights (like on my Elite), and one that I would call a thinline...more like a traditional, one piece bridge.

Ooh, and here's an update on my Elite...managed to wear off some of the patina from the 'old' strings that it came with. They had a nice mellow sound, but, alas I was overcome by the siren song of the Elixir lights the store threw in with the purchase.

So, I swapped the strings out tonight, taking the opportunity to wipe down the neck and fretboard with lemon oil, and the body with lemon pledge (thanks to suggestions I found using 'search') . The action is low...fretting at 1 and 13 yields just about 0.000" at the 5th fret. Might explain that annoying buzz. So, I guess I scare up a big ol' allen wrench and put a bow back in it.

This guitar plays like a dream, though...as long as I pick light, or fingerpick. :) My wife is sick of hearing the same three songs over and over, though. Apparently guitars are like children...better seen and not heard. My first lesson is tomorrow night, though, so hopefully I'll learn something new. ;) Oh, and in case anyone's taking a poll, I don't like the sound of the Elixirs...to bright, not enough bass.

With the exception of the Matrix model, which did not use a saddle-type pickup there have been 3 types of pickup used on Ovations. The OPP refers to the original wide pickup/saddle assembly which pretty much set the bar in the early 70's and is still one of the best, if not the best pickup available. Then there is the CP100 Thinline which is used on the imports & entry level USA models as well as early SMT's, the '97 collectors and a few others. The Third pickup, which was only around for a few years and appears to be discontinued was the Tru-Balance, which was similar to but wider than the Thinline

Paul-

Thanks for the info. Any suggestion on how to tell which one is in my Elite?
