Location: Northwest Arkansas | I'm considering buying a custom Legend and I need to know if there's really that much difference in AX and LX. I know LX is U.S. made and AX is foreign made. I just need to know if the sound changes between the two. I want an LX really bad, but that's a lot of money. I may have to sell a few of my celebrities. I need an answer soon because a guy wants to trade me an old Godin for one of my celebrities. I'll sell the Godin and buy a Legend. |

Location: Northwest Arkansas | For the record give me your opinions on what the best guitar is for the money. I want a center soundhole, because I already have quite a few elites. Ebony neck also and an OP Pro Studio preamp with XLR. You guys know a lot more about these guitars than I do. |

Location: Massachusetts | There are plenty more members here with more experience than I though after my experience with my 2778AX I would recommend you purchase an LX. And I would definitely recommend you play the guitar before you buy, whether it's an LX or AX. |

Location: Utah | What exactly is your goal here? If all you can afford is a new AX, I would suggest a different plan. The AX is probably a pretty good value, though I've only seen a few in person. Another option is a used LX, or you could buy a used older 70's or 80's guitar for about $300 to $400 and then retrofit the OpPro Studio. |

Location: Germany | are we comparing/contrasting the sound of a brand new guitar to one that is 20 years old? From what I read around here and have experienced for myself, the older instrement will always sound better. Or are we seeing snobery? An old US made guitar is automatically, I don't even need to see it or hear it, better?

Location: Northwest Arkansas | I was wondering about quality issues, sound, etc. I know the LX is nicer. I was just wondering if the price difference was justified. I want an LX. I own an Adamas and I absolutely love it. I want the OP Pro Studio and a center soundhole. Oh, and a contour back. I've got a big ol' gut. I still don't know that much about Ovations and I needed some advice. I would appreciate a few more answers from the experts. I own an Adamas and 2 celebrities and the celebrities serve their purpose, but I really like the upper end guitars. |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | My best advice on buying an AX would be to Play It First.
I had two Korean 2171 Ultra pseudo-Balladeers (which, I believe, were made at the Factory where the AX's are made)...
I had to send the first one back to MF... The replacement was nice with a cool 3-color Sunburst.
Then I had a 2178 Ultra Elite-ish looking thing that I traded to Woody cuz it needed the Saddle-slot routed down into the Top-wood.
(and I could not return that one)
So... Just be sure of the AX before you purchase. (check how many shims are under the saddle)
I would only recommend an online purchase with a really good return policy.
