Hi All,

I saw this 10th Anniversary 1657 on Ebay. It is a beautiful guitar, but broken.
Can it be repaired at a reasonble cost?
Anyone care to estimate the cost of repair?

That one has shown up a couple of times with no one brave enough to take it on. It's about like rebuilding a car when the leather seats are the only good thing left.

Save your dollars for a specific instrument of choice and then pounce on it. Don't be afraid to ask the board for a sale either.

This guitar has been on ebay 4-5 times on the last few months. Interesting heading "Near-Mint, Needs Work". I'm not a repair expert (although I have spent considerable money on repairs), but I would guess new neck and setup will run you minimum $350. If you really like this model guitar, it may be worth a shot to Buy-It-Now and have the neck replaced. For maybe a bit over $600. it would be a nice guitar. But weigh that with the fact that you could get a Balladeer LX or Legend LX BRAND NEW with warranty and all that for not a hell of a lot more. The guitar on ebay is a fancy version of the 1617 Legend. I've owned it and it's fine. But for my ears, the acoustic sound of the new LX is far better. And the modern electronics of the LX are so much better than the stacked V/T it isn't even funny. You decide, but if it were me ... step away from the computer ... put one hand on the phone (Al) and the other hand on your credit card.

I'm concerned that they're no strings on it... No good for the neck.

The neck damage looks like more than just a crack. With strings on those cracks might open even more. In your "welcome to the club" post I guessed you would be in the market soon. IMO..let this one go.
You can do better.

Although I am sure that Red Green would say he could fix it - there is only one word for that "Mint Condition/Damaged" collector, and that is "Wallhanger". Unless a certain model has sentimental value or rarity you should move on.

I am not sure what your budget and preferences are but as soon as you know there is a lot of opinion out here to be had!

I can see that you have the itch! Most of us have learned where to scratch, but it still itches.

My advice-DON'T BUY IT!!
I'm not sure how often you check eBay, but one of these in working condition went for about $400 just last week. I would have bid on it, but I already have a 1619 CL and a 1537 Elite, plus other guitars and a wife that's starting to look at me wierd when I talk about getting another guitar. This guy has been trying to unload this broken thing for quite a while. I think that this is the third time he's listed it. Be patient and keep looking. I have a 1612 Custom Balladeer in near mint condition in the Sell/Trade section if you're interested.

I would jump at this if I had the money. I know a guy that does repairs and he does it for me real cheap. Just wish I had the $$$. The story of my life.

I recently got one for $375, now in the hands of Paul Hebert if you have any questions - see:
